Do your MCs ever give you a surprise, and take your plot in a whole new direction?

I've spent a lot of time stressing about how to throw my MC and FMC together to start stirring some romance. Nothing was working for me, and then just when I was warming up to my introductions, he suddenly walked in front of her and got knocked over.

I did not see that coming!!!

How are your characters surprising you this year? Have any of them hijacked your carefully planned story yet?
If not... just wait.

They're all still trying to find their path at the moment, so, not having much character yet, no one's behaving out of character, so to speak. But last year my main love interest outed himself. Just like that. 'I'm sorry,' he said. 'But I'm gay.'

Did not see that coming.

But what a kick it gave me! It meant I had real people living with me, not just fictional characters. I'm waiting for these guys to Velveteen Rabbit on me.

I have the metaphorical lamb for the slaughter..it's supposed to be an event that awakens realisation in the other characters to get them to do what they need to and make their minds up....trouble is a low paid accountant seems to have an awesome knack for avoiding danger. They keep trying to kill the bugger but he gets through it...and even worse he does it in a way where he doesn't realise he was supposed to die...I hate accountants :(

I love accountants. They do my tax for me. :D

And seen as how I have no "real" story, except for what I believe will be the final line in my book (No, not "the end") they keep doing their own excitable things all the time. :P

Well, I had a few main characters lined up, but one of them seems to have taken over the story, so it looks like it's going to be mostly from her point of view now on. That's not really a bad thing, as I think it will actually work better that way.

I guess the first sign that she was taking over was when she stated that she had a crush on her neighbour, which was a bit of a surprise to me. As well as to him, as he hadn't expected to be in the story at all, but is now romantically involved with her. My only concern with that development is whether I can write a romance from a woman's point of view given that I'm a guy. ;)

That's just not nice. I'm an accountant, and I really don't think I'm all that bad. Or I try not be.

I hope my MC finds her way into the other dimension. I have her currently peeking in through dreams, but I have no idea how she will get there!

And my post on the board vanished after I posted :S Yeah, like I never saw my post for help even displayed :(

Mine are all behaving so far. Although a quirky, jovial dwarf made an entrance last night and it appears he is here to stay.

It's good though, he makes me laugh.

I did not expect Alecto, Megaera and Tisiphone to show up.

But they have.

*is polite to the ladies, and back away slowly.*

It's all good, it totes works in the novel anyway.

My cousin has just thrown my central idea for the novel completely out of the water... but I LOVE her for it. Her alternate suggestion is nothing short of absolutely brilliant.

I've been looking for a twist on the cliche, and she just provided it...

-does the snoopy dance of happiness-

-wonders briefly if she may have been hanging around her ex just a little too much-

Sorry... that would be my ex-boyfriend who has the patent.

He regularly does snoopy dances of happiness....

Just ask Lyonza. He goes shooting with my ex.

You asked someone to shoot your ex? :O GASP!

And I just had someone throw a pitchfork into my MC's thigh. He's rather upset with me about that.

Hahahahahahah!

Nope. I actually still get on really with my ex-boyfriend.

And no... I haven't asked anyone to shoot my ex-husband either. I've had offers... plenty of them.... but I'm trying to be the bigger person.....

-grin-

Why a pitchfork? Trying to send him to hell?

This is so, I have gone to the firing range with said person. He's cool.

I have not seen the Snoopy Dance of Happiness performed by said person though. It might be too scary.

Actually... I always found it kind of cute.

-twiddle-

Especially coming from him.... You know... big scary bald german-blooded cage-fighter doing a snoopy dance of happiness...

-giggle-

I think I just destroyed some of his credibility. I'm going to have to hide, aren't I?

-ponder- You don't feel like sending a pitchfork into my ex-husband. I'm not into the idea of killing him, but a little suffering here and there wouldn't hurt....
