Wow! Just passed the 10k road stop, and can't feel more content with myself. 10k is honestly the most I've written in four days EVER. Plus, there's the fact that I joined this as simple motivation to get this novel done, thinking that I was SURE I wouldn't be able to finish it, but that at least I'd get a move on the story. Now that I've reached 10k sho quickly, I'm beggining to feel honestly hopeful.
*Does a dance*
Okay, yeah, I am now off to study for that kinda HUGE test I've got tomorrow -and the one reason I skipped school this morning.
Ciao!

Yes! I just cracked 10,000!
10140 to be precise. ^_^
I am doing SO much better than the last time I tried NaNo. I could hardly keep up with the daily word count to stay on target, never mind exceed it.
This year I'm writing in a notebook first and then typing it up and it is working SO much better for me. ^_^
I'm not sure how much more I'm going to get done today because we have to go over to the Mother In Law's to retune her TV thanks to the digital switchover. *sigh*
I will be taking my notebook with me though. ^_^

I hit 10k last night! Last year's nano, I didn't make it that far the entire month!
On top of that, my characters have done a pretty good job of working out the kinks for me. They kind of rock because of that!
YAY 10k! I'm a little bit ecstatic about it, can't wait to keep going!

Me, too!
OK, I know it's only been a few days.... but I've never written every day, given myself any kind of deadline, allowed myself not to rewrite (and thus end up deleting!), or had a word goal that I pushed myself to meet even when I'd run out of "inspiration."
And I feel ridiculously happy to see the graph with my word totals on it! Sometimes I log on just to take another peek at it.
It's official: I'm nuts!
I'm learning a lot... about perseverance, about discipline and about not turning the TV on when I hit a wall :)

Yee-haaaa! This is my first NaNo and I'm flowing well at the moment. It's coming in fits and starts. Chapters coming in the wrong order but I'm just writing it as it comes for the time being. It's a real challenge for me not to edit as I go, so this last 10k has been really refreshing!

10K!!!!!!
This is so exciting! When I signed up for Nano, I had no idea what writing 50,000 words in a month would actually look like. I was worried that I wouldn't have time to cook dinner, that I'd stop sleeping, that I'd never be able to physically accomplish it - and I cannot believe how wrong I was!
If I write just three hours a day, but am super productive and focused during those hours, I excede the required daily word count to reach my goal!
This is both a wonderful and horrible discovery. I am thrilled that this seems feasible and that I am on schedule to complete Nano, but I am also horrified by how unproductive my writing has always been without the constant motivation of updating my word count online and in my Nano excel sheet.
Why haven't I written a novel before?!?!!! Why has my internal critic and overzealous editing streak been the queen of my writing existence?! HOW HAVE I ONLY JUST NOW DETHRONED HER AND ACTUALLY BEGUN WRITING!!!!?!?!
Thank you Nano, and I hate you Nano, because you make me hate myself for demonstrating how easy it is to take just a few hours a day and accomplish so much when you legitimately put in a concentrated effort.
I am a failure. Because I have reached 10k and I still make dinner every night. Why. Why have I not always done this.
Why.

10K!!!!!!! I never thought I'd make it. Can't believe how easy it was. Kelly, I feel your pain. I have a 20 month old running around and since he was born, I've written like 20 words. Now I just did 10,000 in four days? And the baby is still alive? And he only watched a teeny tiny bit of tv? What was my problem?
I could spend a long time beating myself up. But let's move on. 20k by the week-end?

Congrats everyone! I just hit the 10K mark and it feels great! I haven't written anything in almost two years and it feels great.
Anyone know where I can find the current years report card? I found one but it was from last year and it is not projecting my finish date correctly.

I found the 2008 report card as well - if you have the same excel file that I do, there's a place where you can just change the year 2008 to 2009 at the top for both the start and the finish, and then it will autocorrect the dates all the way through the document. (Upper left, cells B2 and B3 in my NanoReportCard... maybe you have the same one?)
I didn't find it, my husband did when I was showing him how cool the report card was : )

I'm glad to hear you're on the same page! I agree, 20k here we come!!! (And glad your 20 month year old is just fine!)
Do you worry that at some point we're going to collapse and lose all motivation because it hasn't been as hard as we expected? I keep waiting for something horrible to happen so I can't keep going, because I thought this would be more dramatic and harder than it has been so far! Is it coming? Nano-ers with experience, should I really be preparing myself for complete despair in a few weeks? Or is it possible that I can really do this without having an emotional meltdown?

Same here, 10k is probably more frantic writing in four days than I've ever done. Actually I'm astonished at how I breezed so far past it in just today.
I had that same dilemma last year, because 1667 per day is at the end almost a relaxing writing speed when you're ready to go flat out. I managed 50k with the last thousand coming exactly on the last day, and I didn't have much more than slight stress flutters. If you really want to challenge yourself (and stress that that level is really exhilaratingly fun) you can always increase your personal goal. 75k to 100k by the end of November, or further if you feel like it.

I made it to 10000. Can't believe I did it. Just needed to learn to focus and turn off the editor. It's dawned on me over the last several days that I've never finished stuff because that editor jumps in and holds me back. Somewhere I read "great is the enemy of finished" and that's for sure. I've been one to revise and revise; looking for the perfect sentence and never finishing.

Hi Kelly
Thanks I did change the date and it set everything for 2009 but on mine when I look at the "at this rate you will be done on" box it tells me I will be done on December 10, 2009. Which is not correct because at 10k today i am 3498 words over the daily goal.

Oh, I know what you mean. Mine does that too - it calculates when you'll be done based on what would happen if you wrote the same number of words as you've written today each day in the future. So even if you averaged 3,000 words the last three days, if you wrote 1,000 words today, it would calculate you as finishing sometime after November is over, despite the fact that you're actually ahead.
I guess what it should do is calculate your rate of completion based on the average number of words you've written per day up to this point, but I don't know how to change the formula in excel. Maybe I'll ask my husband if he can do that for me tonight! He and excel go way back.
