i'm new and read the FAQ on NanoRebel
but i'm totally confused.
I write essays and creative non-fiction and intend to write 2 memoirs.
This means i can't be in Nano? i kept reading the FAQ and could not make sense of it.
also.....how do you write a memoir about a dead person? would that be classified as a biography???
sorry for being such a confused tyro.

Did anyone answer your questions?
If not - you are in the Rebel forum - be a rebel, write what you want - just pound out 50,000 words!
See you in the publisher's circle.

A memoir can be about anyone, living or dead, or any place, or series of events, anything at all. The only usual expectation is that the writer has some level of intimacy with the subject they're writing about. I'd tend to think of a memoir as being a little different than a biography for that reason; many biographers study their subjects, rather than become involved in them in any way, so I think (on average, anyway) a biography would be a colder work.
And yeah, none of us down here are technically in NaNo. But it's not stopping us, so don't let it stop you! I'm fully intending to validate what I do this month as well. You may not fit within the declared rules of NaNoWriMo, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't take advange of the opportunity to write!

This is my first year being a rebel... my last 4 years I've been a good little NaNo-er and written fiction. I fully consider myself to be a NaNo-er this year. After all, if you read the official rules, after the part where it says it has to be fiction, they say that as long as you consider it to be a novel, then they do too.
So. Do you consider what you're writing to be a novel? I consider mine to be. Therefore, I am doing NaNoWriMo!

Mars,
Did you read the sticky at the top of this forum? Welcome to Rebellion: Am I a Rebel?..... It's pretty clear that anyone who wishes to "do" NaNo may, in fact "DO" NaNo.....This is the forum for folks who are "doing their own thing".....If you scan the thread topics, it should be pretty clear that LOTS of people are doing essays, memoirs, theses, etc........
