Is quoting and giving the source of an Article that is relevant to ones writing okay to be considered as part of ones word count?

Or should i do a word count just on it and subtract it from my total?

I am writing a semi fictionalized autobiography and i reached a particular area that required some explanation as it has to do with a point of religious practice and philosophy/

Okay, here are my thoughts (for whatever they're worth).
Question 1) If one of your characters is saying whatever the quote is to another character, or reading a book, and that quote is inside it, then you should count it in your word count.

Question 2) I think if you just remove 'semi' from semi-fictionalized then you've got a novel. Have you changed the names and rearranged events? Combined two people into one or compressed events to make them more dramatic? All those things would be more "Novel-ish".

i am doing it as a narrative, have changed the names and think in many ways have fictionalized by giving characters a better or worse light as fictionalized.
but then again anything in hindsight as one recalls it has a basis in fiction as one remembers it a way other than the actual events occurred. i know right now that mostly i am doing character development by relaying how i got to where i am now.
romanticizing people too would alter their real character .

bottom line i still think getting 50k plus words on paper in one form or another is still a feat!
i think part of it is i feel guilty because it is coming out so fast and furiously
my object is to get it all down and then really really fictionalize it in the rewrite.

The "boyfriend" thinks i am splitting hairs here.. so i am going back to pounding it out.,and letting my angst supply some colour.

count the qoute its part of what your wrting and i wont lie i start every chapter of my novel with a qoute and count it. As far as weather what you are doing is nanowrimo worthy absolutely, theres a nano rebels section in the forums you may find helpful its full of people just like yourself who are writing fabulous works that may not strictly fit the definition of novel. kudos to you for being a rebel.
