So how's the word count going?

I had a huge falling out with my body today and was unable to get much accomplished. However, I'm right now in the middle of a word war on the Virtual Write-In site, which may prove fruitful!

Is anyone else running into brick walls? Having character issues? Or, just having super fantastic luck with your story, or word count?

Tell us about it!

:)

I got just over 1700 today, and my final word count is 7426.

I entered some strange story stuffs today. I dont know if my characters will ever forgive me. One is now in a dungeon, another had a drunken night and went to bed laying next to a dog, and well.. I don't have any others developed enough to talk about.

The first two days were fairly easy for me. Then last night (Day 3), I sat down at the computer and pulled up the files for the story. I was going to start a new chapter, and knew what the setting was ... but nothing came.

What I did then was go back to what I'd already written and fleshed it out a bit ... added some more dialogue, filled in some gaps, and so forth. That primed the pump, and I was then able to proceed into the new stuff. That seems to be my normal writing MO anyway; writing in bits and pieces, here and there in the story, rather than in a straight line from start to end.

What's really helping me this year is not giving in to my inner editor, who wants to nit-pick everything to death. (Who, me? :p) Keeping writing, even if it sounds like pig slop. After all, manure is fertilizer, and beautiful flowers use it to grow.

I just got 195 words today, since by the time I could finally start writing, about 10 minutes ago, I was soooo tired... these 6:30 a.m. shifts are not on my body's schedule! I'll catch up later. I'm at 5249 now.

What do you do if you want to be a writer?
Write, right? Right!
Write, write, write!

Blaaaaah. I've been tired and busy all day but I just finished up my requirement for the day with 6,756 words. I would write more but I'm sleepy and just got informed that I might get a tad sick from the swine flue vaccination I got yesterday. Grrr.

Elatha and his issues can freakin' wait until tomorrow.

6788 and counting. I got 1200 at the Sunday midnight write in, then didn't do anything on Monday >.< but I got caught up plus on Tuesday, 5,133 total. Tonight I'm hoping to crunch out another few hundred before bed; the more I pad my lead, the better I feel. and the two main character finally exchanged their first words to each other about 200 words ago. ^^ this may be a longer story than I thought...

of course, starting with a crazy voyeuristic sex scene helped a bit. *smirk*

I was so tired by the time I started writing that I wasn't sure I would be able to meet the daily goal, but then I completely surprised myself and went over it :) I've reached a major plot change in the story though, so hopefully I'll be able to maintain the diligence I've had so far.

Today: 1714
Total: 14057

I wasn't planning to write at all, but then all my major competitors surged into the lead! I'm still behind, but less so than before. As a bonus, I am going to bed fairly early with a chance to sleep more than 8 hours!! My wrist is happy I only typed for 45 minutes, so it is good all the way around.

I managed just over 1100 words, which brought over the 7000 mark. The scene itself is pure drivel: info dump with character backstory and a little bit of a nudge toward the plot. I need a better transition scene, but that was the best I could manage yesterday, so I let it ride.

Onward to more interesting things today, I hope. And I have to say, if I've gone 6000 words without info-dumping, then i'm doing good! I can forgive myself the 1000-word transgression. This time.

Well, I think I must be doing something right based on the bizarre snarly chaos surrounding me at work. When the chaos picks up it's a sign I'm headed in the right direction and hitting universe-challenges. Brrr.

I think my writing is more about summaries and character development in some patches, and I'm keeping up the speed by lowering quality but I've written more pages of fiction in a row than I ever have before, and trying not to edit yet. Massive rewrites loom on horizon though.
