I noticed that we blasted past 1200 in the region sometime this evening. Is that a record? Anyone know the previous highest Sacto region NaNoers? I'm proud of us. :)

You know, I'm honestly not sure we've ever kept track. Although, that said, the 1200 in the region is a slight misnomer -- the one that counts is the total under the regional tab of active and homed. That said, last I checked that, we were over 400, which is also pretty awesome.

Sorry to be dense - what? I don't get the difference of the two numbers, or why there is a 800 person discrepancy.

Well, here's an example. I've joined the East Bay region, mostly to have their forum up and so I can see what's going on over there. I'm also a member of Finland and Pittsburgh for the purposes of cross-posting Word War posts. So I'm counted as a member of all three regions as well as Sacramento, and thus am counted in that number on the regions page.
Also, just because you stop participating in NaNo doesn't mean your account gets wiped. So there's a ton of people there that joined the region and then fell out over the years.
The active numbers are specifically folks who (a) have been active this year and (b) have chosen Sacramento as their home region. It's a much closer snapshot as to what's actually going on in the region. That said, we had 470 (!!) as of this morning there.
The average wordcount numbers are also based on the smaller number.
