Hey folks. I started out strong but I have written very little since Sunday due to a death in my family. I may be traveling out of state back up to Ohio this weekend so I'll get even less written. Talk about lack of motivation at the moment. Advice? /sigh

First of all, I'd like to offer my condolences.
Secondly, I'd like to offer to be a writing buddy when you get back. I haven't actually started my novel yet since my sister's getting married Saturday and I'm helping with last-minute details (and yet my sister already has about 2k words on HER word-count!), so when you get back we may well be on the same footing. Shall I Nanomail you on Monday to issue a 500-word challenge?

Thank you. It appears that I am not needed in Ohio right now so we'll see how that works out. I'd love to have a writing buddy though so bring on the challenge...just after this weekend please.

Well, part of the elementary building caught fire today where I teach. We sent the kids home at noon but guess who has to stay until 3pm per the superintendant? Ugh. My lesson plans are written for next week, my office is clean, and all my paperwork is filed. I have nothing.to.do. >:( They won't let me help clean since I'm sick. So, I get to sit in my office and do absolutely zippo. Oh, and my novel is on a flashdrive so I could work on it...if it wasn't sitting on my desk at home. /grumble

Write by hand, DeAnna! Don't let those hours mock you! ^_~
I write by hand then transcribe. If you think that will slow you down, just average out how many words you can fit on a page, add that into your wordcount, and type it up later. If nothing else, plot!
Oldschool technology for the win!

I was about to do that when they announced that any teacher that has not updated grades should take the time to do so. I haven't updated grades since October 9th so I figured I better do that. Well, at least my grades are caught up now. Finally, I am free to go home and get started on my novel!!

Aw, darn that essential updating!
I hope everything is ok/safe with the school, but hey, at least you're getting an early start. I've been trying to calculate how much I *have* to get done tonight so I can skip out tomorrow night.
And I'm almost into novellus incognita--the part I haven't plotted yet and don't know what to do with...

Wooo whooo! I finally hit my stride and managed to bring my word count up to just 295 words below today's goal. Not bad considering I was about 8,000 behind two days ago. I will be caught up and surpass the word goal once again tomorrow and into the weekend!

I think I'm going to aim for 12.5k by the end of Sunday night. It's crazy, but it just. Might. Work.

----------Plot twist idea: introduce a new responsibility that challenges your MC's weakest point= growth!

Another plot twist idea - I used this one a few nights ago to break the block.
Have a character experience a flashback to childhood (or teens) and learn something that until now has been buried in subconcious. Whatever they had learned as a child could now have some substantial relevance to the current scene. I used the idea that my mc knew a kid from school that shows back up in his future and what MC rememebred from childhood shapes how he deals with this guy in the present.
This also gets you writing words about the past which can add to WC and maybe even help develop your MC a little more.
After doing this, I decided to do a 1, 2, 3 sequence with his childhood, his college years and then have the payoff as an adult with much character development happening during sections 1 and 2.
What do you think?
BTW: I WILL hit 25,000 by the end of the weekend!

I'm going to use the flashback idea in the chapter I am writing tonight. I'm hoping to hit 30k by Sunday night. We'll see.

Way to go Tibi! I ended up writing more when I got home and combined with the few hundred I scribble-typed at lunch, I managed 5141 words. Today I snuck in about 1500 which, since I hadn't thought to get any writing time at all, was awesome.
Now... I'm out of words. I don't know what happens next. My villain keeps sweet-talking everyone, including me >_< and this villain is not allowed growth!
See you (all of you) tomorrow!
Sweet dreams and pleasant plots,

A trick I've used so far. If you're at a standstill, have one character travel. Maybe they need to get away from something? You can pick up interesting travels and more characters that way. Or if you have a wandering character, go into why they wander or what places they avoid going to and why. Adds depth to the character and some word count adding backstory :0)

Sorry. Been in hiding ... I didn't write for two whole nights. I didn't have the strength to wave a spork, nor felt that I had earned the honor to hassle you. Consider yourself virtually sporked.
(Migraine on Sunday, family stuff Monday after Cub scouts ... writing just didn't happen.)
Write life. That gives tons of word count. I was going to make an actual novel, but it has diverted itself into a very large collection of the life/parenting anecdotes needed for the novel. In essence, very therapeutic journaling that I will (I promise!) turn into novels or short stories some day. I am definitely counting it anyway, and it definitely proves that life is at least as weird as, if not stranger than, fiction. Only reason I've maintained the word count I have, I promise. Otherwise this would've been the year of me bowing out.

Hey, background fiction is fiction nonetheless! Considering how little I've gotten on something that is really a solid concept, I'm thinking we should try our own little InkBlotNoWriMo in a few months, once we're done getting Jennifer's stuff out of the townhouse. ~_~ This weekend is going to be spent mostly cheerleading moving efforts instead of tippy-tapping on the keyboard, methinks.
