I hereby officially challenge everyone in the Akron region to use the word "zombie" in their NaNovel this year. Many have it easy, as they are writing about the living dead. Here is how I plan to do it:

One of my MC's finds a stray black kitten and decides to keep her. The kitten is loving and playful, but has a chronic habit of gnawing on MC's hands and feet. Thus, the kitten earns the name Zombie.

Write on!

Shannon

PS - this really happened with my first foster kitten, who was adopted out through the the Humane Society and probably has a really boring name now.

Hahahahah!!!! Mine's already in there too!! My main character comes back to "life" from a "death" she faked (to get out of town) and has a really hard time convincing her friend that she's not a zombie!!

How cool is that? (Not my plot--your suggestion!)

Okay--next challenge!

still giggling,

TOO FUNNY. My MC has a cat that is nick-named "devil cat" for the same reason - biting viciously. Guess she just became the zombie cat.

Thanks, Shannon. Great idea.

I got both challenges (peanut butter and zombies) in one paragraph, and it works within the story. The little boy explains a Sponge Bob episode he just watched - this is partly a real episode. Gary, the snail, bites someone and turns them into a zombie. That zombie bites someone, and so on. When Patrick is bitten, the zombie bites off the top of his head to get his brains, but nothing is in there except peanut butter and jelly. Patrick grabs some bread and makes a sandwich out of what passes for his brain.

Just got back from Hudson Book Fair and there is a book for sale called Pride and Prejudice and Zombies! The picture is the picture from the original Jane Austin cover with the mouth torn away to the skeleton. I took a pix on my phone and would share here but don't know how. Oh well - thought of our group's story challenge and thought, now there is someone who took the challenge to the nth degree!

I've heard of that book! If they can add zombies to Pride and Prejudice, then we should be able to pull it off, too. ;-)

Write on!

I have that book. I haven't read it yet, but it received great reviews (even from die-hard Austin fans). I guess that 75% of the book is the original P&P.
