Okay coming off of mid terms Professors are Nazi's and I just remembered today that it was November >.> Five days in and I just started writing, and luckily the character is building himself YAY! I just did my first 364 words off the top of my head. I decided to make up a world with four races, and go. Seriously that was the entire thought process. -_- Anyway are there other slow starters out there? Come on we need to support each other slackers! ^_^

Fun.

I actually restarted my novel from the beginning. It had hit a brick wall, all... screeech. pow.
Fellow college student here too.

I've only written like almost 2,000 words. I have to say that I'm probably a slacker

I guess I'm a bit of a slacker...only have 2901 words. I always have a tough time with beginnings, but I'm planning to spend the weekend writing, so I should gather some steam!
Still plenty of time though. And anyway - I think my 2901 words are pretty darn good! :)
Chins up. Slow and steady can win the race too!

I always work on the idea that slow and steady wins the race.
It's writing every day that counts....

I'm about 6000 words behind where I "should be"...but hey, I like what I have thus far. Besides, end of the month crunch time is when it really gets heated for me. =)

I always have a hard time with beginnings. I also have been handwriting a lot of mine because the internet is too distracting and i have no self control. xD

I'm with you! I only have barely over 300 words, because I'm trying to write and deal with 2 very young kids all day, with not much help from hubby at night. I have a hard time with beginnings also, so that isn't helping!! LOL Oh, well, I'll get it, hubby is just gonna have to help over the weekends.............LOL

See, if you have to start your novel over, don't delete what you've written! Don't delete anything, for that matter. Just highlight it, turn it red, then keep going. Go back and delete it later - after November. That way it still counts for your word count.
I'm a slacker in that I usually wait until about this time of night to do my writing. I spend all day saying "Hmm... I should be writing," then finally, around 10, actually get my laptop out and go to work.
I'm still on track for word count though - couple hundred ahead, actually - so I guess I'm doing ok.

I tend to get distracted by other things. For those who have kids and ... nazi professors as I believe someone put it, I think no matter how far you get, it should be concidered an achievment. The more you have on the plate, the more you have to rearrange your time.
I agree with the other person about not deleting though. Sometimes, there is going to be something that you want in that 'bad start', that you want to go back to, any small detail. Tolkien kept stopping, and rewriting until he got what he wanted.

Yes, I'm a slacker. I knew this would happen this week. Lots on my dance card. Fortunately I have two weeks of no previsously obligated time slotted before the Thanksgiving crowd shows up. I have a pretty good handle on when my best creative time is...between 9 and noon. Kids before and after school. I crash in the evenings. My plan is to get in a couple of writing-time hours during that time and make it a habit. A habit that will go beyond NaNo. I haven't written anything in over two years and when I do, I tend to get stuck in rewrite mode. So this is a great exercise. Just go forward. (Just keep swimming, just keep swimming.) I'll edit the crap out of it later. Just go forward, just keep swimming.

I'm not really a slacker so much as I'm writing a novel about a girl with Type I diabetes, and although I have T1D, there ARE things that I have not experienced, so getting feedback on some things has slowed me down. My MC was diagnosed at the very beginning, so right now I'm bogged down in all of the medical explanations and such, which is taking me awhile to accomplish. Ugh. I also had a paper due this week, and one due Tuesday. Ergggg.

My slackage is discouraging me while I continue to push others. Life is getting in the way and I knew it would be more than usual this week. I plan to attack my word count tonight and tomorrow -- going forward, I'm applying two valuable themes:
1. Saying "no" (to ancillary tasks that can wait).
2. Getting focused (on writing because I do have a good outline and juicy characters).
#1 is going to make the difference, though.

The whole just talking and disucssions in the beginning helps out. (plus, have a little score to settle with peter . . >.> . .. . XD)
Maybe if i didn't wait to purposely find out what consequence i would listen to I'd write more XD.
I'll log on to it now just as a pre . . . something move . .lol

Off topic but can anyone tell me why my word count only reflects thew number I calculated today? Yesterday it was over 1400 and today it was 1931. On my little graph it shows a measly little line on both days representing those numbers but I thought it would add the two together. I am seeing only 1931. Boo hoo. I did use the word scramble and their counter matched the total I had on the bottom of my own word document, so I don't think it was that the software they are testing for use didn't count it right.

Don't bother with the verifier tool from NaNo, it's really only useful at the very end of the month. After you've logged in, look at the top of any page you're on. Find the entry field above the line that reads "Total word count (no comma). Enter your total, not for the day, but for all x days so far, and click on the Update button. If you don't see those things, you're not logged on. Does that make sense, or am I confusing you more?

I like the helpful comment on the WordWars. My friend Kristin and I are helping each other through our first NaNoWriMo, and if I didn't have her by my side, I would definitely be way behind than where I am right now. Though we're not competing, I feel like I am, so I've been overdoing my word goal every day :]
You can do it, my fellow WriMos. :]
