This thread is going up in preparation for the Halfway Party [EDIT: Info on the party itself has been posted here], but it isn't about the party on Nov. 15… it's about the CD exchange which happens every year during the Halfway celebration. DO NOT RSVP for the party here – although you must come to the party to take part in the CD exchange – this thread is just for the CD sign up. (The official halfway party thread will go up next week.)

What is the CD exchange, you might ask?

The concept:

Bring 10 copies of a mix CD that inspires you as you write your NaNo masterpiece - or that evokes the spirit of your novel - and leave the party with copies of 10 great mix CDs made by your fellow NaNo-ers.

...And the rules:

1. You can only participate in the CD exchange if you are going to be present at the halfway party at the Yellow Griffon on Sunday, November 15 (see calendar).
2. RSVP in this thread by midnight on Saturday, November 14, 2008.
3. Bring 10 copies of your mix CD to the halfway party and give them to Nelson (voxel).
4. Receive 10 random mix CDs made by other Toronto WriMos before you leave the party!
5. The CD exchange is NOT PG this year, but please make sure to label your CD with warnings for explicit lyrics, etc. so we can make sure CDs are distributed age-appropriately for those receiving them. Thanks!

Nelson will be running the CD exchange this year, so feel free to direct your questions at him!

I won't know until later this Sunday if I'll be able to make it, but I already have been tinkering on iTunes; compiling an all-ages friendly (at least, I think so) group of song to turn into a mix CD. Don't be surprised if you hear me listening to it on my iPod during the Subway writing session.

Hi Meerkat,

The halfway party event thread actually isn't posted yet... we wanted to give advance notice on the CD exchange this year, though, so that you'd all have time to prep your CDs! The party details will be up in a few days.

Thanks for organizing!

Thank you NaNoWriMo-ers for being out there and having fun, even if it's disguised as work, sweat, tears and pain on occasion. Who cares how hard, how crazy, how unbridled... It's wonderful to create and be among creators.

No.

If more people want a MP3/data exchange, I can arrange for that. Right now, if you don't give other people audio CDs, you won't be getting any back.

Ideally you all create 10 mix CDs with track listing + cases + inserts.

I will provide assistance on creating these later this week as I am purchasing some supplies for my own CD tomorrow. I may offer to print the colour inserts / track listings for people if the demand for it is high enough. I know how much time that takes.

Loved this last year, totally doing it again this year!

NaNo Pro Tip - bring something to put the CDs *in* after you get them! Pockets, purse, a bag...whatever leaves your hands free for a drink!

I'm in. Wish there were some way to get a copy of all the mixes, though ... maybe I'll bring a few extra copies in case anyone wants to trade extras.

Don't worry Deej, I believe Nelson has a backup plan so you're covered :) But don't ask me, ask him!

I will be at Tequila Bookworm tomorrow night and Urbana Cafe between 1pm-5pm with blank CDs and sleeves to sell at cost ($5 for 10 CDs with coloured vinyl sleeves).

Yeah...

I'm thinking of actually doing 2 CDs (x10 copies), one as a novel soundtrack and the other as just funky music I wish to impose upon the unsuspecting masses. I've already got the soundtrack done.

Hi Halexus!

I've just posted the info on the party itself in a separate thread (http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3442304)... but to answer your questions: Nope, no CDs required. No writing required, either - it's mostly a social event, though there are always a few people who bring laptops and keep on truckin' while the rest of us are eating and goofing around :)

See you there?

This sounds pretty good. I will try to get involved if I can track down some CD-R's and cases on the cheap.

Aww don't worry, I'll bring 11 so that you don't feel left out :3

Count me in. Just don't be surprised if the track listing just ends up being 14x Never Gonna Give You Up.

Just kidding. I wouldn't rickroll the entire CD. Maybe just the first song.
