Just wondering... for those of you that have goals for a set word count each day, about how long do you set aside to accomplish that? And what, if anything, do you set aside in the month of November to give you the extra time to write?

That is a great question!

My daily word count goal is 2000, and I try to give myself 2-3 hrs an evening/night to write. However, I'm recovering from severe alleries and a cold, so I skipped an evening and fell a little behind. (Could not be helped... Eyes refused to stay open and brain was only registering "uh".) I have a few "catch up" days already planned, which basically means these are days when I know I can dedicate 4 or 5 hours to writing.

Things that I set aside during November include long family dinners, fun little errands not are not absolutely necessary, favorite TV shows, movies, books, and manga, and other little things. As for the rest, I just try to make time for writing inbetween all of the other important activities on my schedule!

I write from 8pm to midnight. I have the evenings pretty much to myself. During the day, I take care of my baby, the house, and a new puppy so I like to have something to push tv out of the way after she goes to bed. I try to write 2,000 words a day but my laptop broke and I missed a day. I plan to make it up today!

I write when I can write, pretty much. I also write in sprints of varying length, so I don't know how much total time I spend on it each day, especially since it varies.

I average 2000 words an hour when I really buckle down, but I use this great website for catching my minimum every day. When I've got a spare half-hour or so (or even ten minutes at the beginning of my computer class), I go to writeordie.drwicked.com and do as follows:
set the word limit to 1000 or the time limit to whatever time I have
change the settings to kamikaze and strict
WRITE!!!!

It works, and it's kind of fun. You know, in the "OHMYGOD, IT'S ERASING MY WORK!!!!" kind of way.

Yeah.

I don't have a set time, because my schedule is quite different, depending upon the day (and work demands). So I imagine my daily times could range from writing not-at-all to squeaking in 10 mintues to crunching out 6+ hours. My back is happiest with 2 hours maximum at a stretch. I'm SO comfortable sitting on a balance ball, which my physical therapist recommended (Yay, the consultation was worth the inve$tment because my back was giving me fits, and the balance ball was sort of reasonable at Super Target). I can even do a little side-to-side or front-to-back wiggle stretch while I'm typing away.

My daily quota is 1700 words, although my daily wordcount depends upon the time investment, obviously.

This NaNo, I'm trying to get ahead and/or make up the days' worth of writing for those days I can't write. Last NaNo's, I got behind and then tried to catch up. Ack, very discouraging approach; this year (OK, on just Day 5 of 30), it's feeling much better.

I'm off work this weekend, and hoping to be able to go somewhere and take the laptop along with me. It's supposed to be coolish. Hopefully, I'll have the batteries by then. Otherwise, I'll be looking for current bushes to plug in to....

I don't have a set time, but rather a set day each week. Because of the fact that I have school and a tutoring job, I really don't have time every day. Rather, I give myself Thursdays to meet my weekly goal of 8,663 words. I hope to have 50,000 words or more by the last Thursday in November.

This year, I've forced myself to write as long as it takes to get up to at least 1.7K words/day, although I am shooting for 2K. It's generally been taking me 3-4 hours each day. This has worked rather spectacularly well, and I'm doing much better this year than any of the previous years I've done NaNoWriMo.

Actually, I think I've passed my record for previous years' word counts already ... lol. Discipline is helping. So is using MomentumWriter and turning off my "inner editor." I've also been lucky in that I haven't hit any point where I'm grasping for the next part of my plot, and no writer's block has hit...of course, we're less than a week in...

Of course, this has pushed World of Warcraft out of my schedule...Oh, the sacrifices we must make for our art! :-)
