come on, I know you're out there! How many things have you done today instead of writing your novel?

I cleaned my house, for goodness sake. And maybe read 500 websites, 500 times each. I did however get 3k done! I swear that this year will not be like last year, where all I did was chat right here, until I realised there were only 12 days to go! 45k in 12 days - unless you're Cristini who I am still in awe of, is really hard!!

Come talk to me anyway, my characters are quite happily sailing boats down the river right now, and I think it's a really good place to leave them for the night. Tomorrow, there'll be some terrible angst....I imagine..or will imagine..I hope! hee!

Aaah, you got me. Today (and yesterday) I've been reading. Finished two books in twenty-four hours, totally forgetting about nanowrimo all together. In my defense, though, I'm getting over sickness so concentrating is just so not on the cards.

I think it's cool you left your characters sailing! I left mine... watching kung-fu movies XD

*cough* what hundred websites? What suddenly urgent PMs that had to be answered? What catching up with long lost friends on skype?

I worked out why I was procrastinating though -- because the middle of my story was looming and it made no sense at all after my characters changed the back story on me. So I finally sat myself down and talked to them. They both agreed that I needed to simplify the story in the same place, and I have since been able to get out 2,000 words. Plus, now I know a fair bit more about their motivations. It was fascinating to see how the characters see themselves and each other -- yes, I know it's just plain weird to talk to yourself like that but it really helped.

ha! These are brilliant, and yes, being sick does give you a free pass.

Also, I don't think it's silly at all to talk to yourself! Mine didn't have a backstory until I started writing, and now I think the original story I was going to write, may end up being a sequel instead since I have to admit I'm having huge fun creating their lives. And they were definitely leading the way. I was just their voice. :-)

Why, thank you :)

Of course, I'm writing from experience... lol. I've found that I still haven't really connected with my characters yet. Probably because I like the guy a helluva lot more than the girl, and I'm planning a POV switch around half way through so that's what's getting me through. Really looking forward to it. Technically that should cancel out any lack of momentum I may feel at 30k or so, it's just the long trudge there that seems never-ending.

Hahaha!!
I'm SO glad I'm not the old one who has been procratinating!
Word count for today: 0
Word count yesterday: Around about 2-300.

To MY defense, I was working today (no comp access) And as soon as work was over I packed my kids up and headed off to a friends for dinner and fireworks (not an easy feat with a 2 and 3 year old I tell you!)

NEXT weekend my excuse will be my oldest birthday, the week after my youngest, but I will go on about that... well next week!

^_____^

birthdays are the best excuse for procrastination. Mine is coming up soon too, although I think the highlight will be actually reaching my word count!

Um ... but did you create questionnaires for them to answer? My characters really showed their true colours in those answers and the one who itemised all her answers amused me. Anyway, I had a blast doing it and now the characters are clamouring to be written in the story again, thank goodness. We were going in circles for a bit there.

LMFAO!! That's hilarious!

Christchurch is having such a glorious day, isn't it? If I don't get out in it, my protaganist may end up floating down the river with his boat.

I promise to write 3k today though...later. You know, after I've procrastinated some more.

I've only just written my first sentence since yesterday lunchtime... I appear to have come down with a mild case of the "brown bottle 'flu" so am not expecting much from today, either in wordcount or in quality.

let me guess. Beer! I really think I need to catch that flu myself. However, since I just gave myself sunstroke it's probably better I try to write instead. *glances at word...which is not yet even open!*

*sigh* yes Christchurch had a great day today -- sadly I was inside working alllllll day -- and friends are coming over for the evening. Looks like it'll be a late night before I get any writing done. How's that for procrastination? Someone else arranging it for me!

Groceries, reading (science fiction challenge on shelfari.com - "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley. I also took out a bunch of comics from the library (Spiderman mostly) and read them all in one day, did dishes, am watching TV, browsing the web, petting my cat, went for a run, had take-away, planned a meal out and then had to cancel -man - lots. I hadn't thought about it.

Did get about 2K done today though.

No writing at all for me today/yesterday :( And it wasn't even procrastinating, really. Oh well, at least I got some planning done at work yesterday.

Got 2.5k words, but did exactly what I knew I had to do. I woke up late, cleaned the house and had lunch, went to the write-in, then alternated between writing and playing Rock Band, and at 8 pm left the house to go to the pub - a friends' band was having their last gig because they're splitting, and I had to be there :)

Tomorrow, 8k words. I can do it! Good thing my novel is kinda "modular" so it's easy to sit down and wrap up blocks of text.

I went to my weapons class, went to subway (FREE FOOTLONG FTW!!!), then went to school and did my design project for a good six hours, went home, ate dinner, went to the rolleston fireworks, talked to jess on msn, caught up on my fav fanfic, wrote 700ish words and then had the program freeze and decide to delete around 500 of them. Now cba writing any more... gonna pay for it tomorrow I can tell. At least there is a writein tomorrow to fix this not meeting the quota thing. And I just noticed that doing nano has made me automatically save every three seconds. I tried to save this without noticing. Damn.

you guys are my faves. :-)

I came down with an awful headache and wrote nothing either. I really need to make up for that today. But with my family home I am always even more distracted than ever!

It is so good to read what the rest of you guys write on these strings. I don't feel so bad or irresponsible! I gave myself a day off yesterday because I was tired, busy and all that stuff, so I have had to catch up today. So far I've got to the 14K mark I should have been at yesterday, and now have another 2k today to keep on target.
Moral of the story - this process feels really good when you are a little ahead of your goal, and really bad when you feel you have to catch up. I felt panic set in, particularly as everyone says the second week is the worst. I intended to have a couple of thousand words 'in hand' so that if I didn't complete on one day this week, it wouldn't matter. But that's not going to happen.
Happy writing

Hmmm, despite being unable to write at all yesterday I have spent the morning not writing *sigh* On the plus side I finished reading that book that's been plaguing me asking to be read for the last week or so ...

Yeah, and there seems not much point doing any before it's time to go to the meeting this afternoon. I'm a terrible procrastinator, really I don't know how I get anything done ... ever.

I got up at seven yesterday to write, which was a miracle. Then I procrastinated by watching transformers and mucking around on lj. Today I've been good. I'm chained to the computer, hoping to churn out another 4k by dinner time!

But darn it I'm hungry :(

hey look! I made it to 10k! My brain hurts, and my characters just got a hundred year sentence. That will teach them for hurting my brain.

I'm going to catch up yet! ;)

if I hope to make it to my target in the next 20 minutes, I'd better get off the forums. then I can procrastinate by heading off to evensong.

My novel was going to be my procrastination activity for everything else I'm supposed to be doing, now I'm just avoiding that too.
On a positive note, I have a tidy place, a huge banana cake and chocolate muffins. Plus all that ironing that has been in the bottom of the basket for the past six months is now all done!

It's funny how the house gets awfully clean at NaNo time isn't it? Normally I procrastinate from housework not towards it.

I watched three discs of My So-Called Life in two days. Because... Well... It has to go back to the Video Store! So I HAVE to watch it.
Plus I realised on Friday how not YA friendly my story, is, and I am physically unable to not go back and edit the not YA parts out. Though actually, atm, that is boosting my word count.
(don't hurt me)

Haha, I give myself permission once I have done my personal quota for the day (usually 2,000) words that I'm allowed to go back and 'edit' by which I mean add in explanations where I deem them necessary. This always, without fail, boosts my word count. I personally see no harm in this, so long as it isn't something that freezes you and prevents you from writing new words next day :D

And it is my very very favourite form of procrastination.

I just realised that there were a bunch of things that needed changing and I couldn't figure out what was going to happen next unless I rewrote them.
I'm making sure everything I rewrite is the same or more words though.
