I cleaned my house, for goodness sake. And maybe read 500 websites, 500 times each. I did however get 3k done! I swear that this year will not be like last year, where all I did was chat right here, until I realised there were only 12 days to go! 45k in 12 days - unless you're Cristini who I am still in awe of, is really hard!!
Come talk to me anyway, my characters are quite happily sailing boats down the river right now, and I think it's a really good place to leave them for the night. Tomorrow, there'll be some terrible angst....I imagine..or will imagine..I hope! hee!

Aaah, you got me. Today (and yesterday) I've been reading. Finished two books in twenty-four hours, totally forgetting about nanowrimo all together. In my defense, though, I'm getting over sickness so concentrating is just so not on the cards.

*cough* what hundred websites? What suddenly urgent PMs that had to be answered? What catching up with long lost friends on skype?
I worked out why I was procrastinating though -- because the middle of my story was looming and it made no sense at all after my characters changed the back story on me. So I finally sat myself down and talked to them. They both agreed that I needed to simplify the story in the same place, and I have since been able to get out 2,000 words. Plus, now I know a fair bit more about their motivations. It was fascinating to see how the characters see themselves and each other -- yes, I know it's just plain weird to talk to yourself like that but it really helped.

Also, I don't think it's silly at all to talk to yourself! Mine didn't have a backstory until I started writing, and now I think the original story I was going to write, may end up being a sequel instead since I have to admit I'm having huge fun creating their lives. And they were definitely leading the way. I was just their voice. :-)

Of course, I'm writing from experience... lol. I've found that I still haven't really connected with my characters yet. Probably because I like the guy a helluva lot more than the girl, and I'm planning a POV switch around half way through so that's what's getting me through. Really looking forward to it. Technically that should cancel out any lack of momentum I may feel at 30k or so, it's just the long trudge there that seems never-ending.

To MY defense, I was working today (no comp access) And as soon as work was over I packed my kids up and headed off to a friends for dinner and fireworks (not an easy feat with a 2 and 3 year old I tell you!)
NEXT weekend my excuse will be my oldest birthday, the week after my youngest, but I will go on about that... well next week!

Um ... but did you create questionnaires for them to answer? My characters really showed their true colours in those answers and the one who itemised all her answers amused me. Anyway, I had a blast doing it and now the characters are clamouring to be written in the story again, thank goodness. We were going in circles for a bit there.

Groceries, reading (science fiction challenge on shelfari.com - "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley. I also took out a bunch of comics from the library (Spiderman mostly) and read them all in one day, did dishes, am watching TV, browsing the web, petting my cat, went for a run, had take-away, planned a meal out and then had to cancel -man - lots. I hadn't thought about it.

Got 2.5k words, but did exactly what I knew I had to do. I woke up late, cleaned the house and had lunch, went to the write-in, then alternated between writing and playing Rock Band, and at 8 pm left the house to go to the pub - a friends' band was having their last gig because they're splitting, and I had to be there :)
Tomorrow, 8k words. I can do it! Good thing my novel is kinda "modular" so it's easy to sit down and wrap up blocks of text.

I went to my weapons class, went to subway (FREE FOOTLONG FTW!!!), then went to school and did my design project for a good six hours, went home, ate dinner, went to the rolleston fireworks, talked to jess on msn, caught up on my fav fanfic, wrote 700ish words and then had the program freeze and decide to delete around 500 of them. Now cba writing any more... gonna pay for it tomorrow I can tell. At least there is a writein tomorrow to fix this not meeting the quota thing. And I just noticed that doing nano has made me automatically save every three seconds. I tried to save this without noticing. Damn.

It is so good to read what the rest of you guys write on these strings. I don't feel so bad or irresponsible! I gave myself a day off yesterday because I was tired, busy and all that stuff, so I have had to catch up today. So far I've got to the 14K mark I should have been at yesterday, and now have another 2k today to keep on target.
Moral of the story - this process feels really good when you are a little ahead of your goal, and really bad when you feel you have to catch up. I felt panic set in, particularly as everyone says the second week is the worst. I intended to have a couple of thousand words 'in hand' so that if I didn't complete on one day this week, it wouldn't matter. But that's not going to happen.

Haha, I give myself permission once I have done my personal quota for the day (usually 2,000) words that I'm allowed to go back and 'edit' by which I mean add in explanations where I deem them necessary. This always, without fail, boosts my word count. I personally see no harm in this, so long as it isn't something that freezes you and prevents you from writing new words next day :D
And it is my very very favourite form of procrastination.
