I've been out the last two nights, out tonight, and been working all day, so I am falling behind on my daily word count - oh no! I'm determined to catch up over the weekend though.

When daunted by big tasks the prevailing wisdom is to break them down into smaller tasks, so rather than writing extended plot lines, I took to writing scenes. Now, rather than whole scenes, I've taken to writing the introduction to scenes. By this time next week will I be putting my novel together phrase by phrase??

How are other people holding up on this gloriously sunny Friday?

As usual I couldn't start til 10:30 but i got two solid hours in before my brain shifted gear into nightshift mode and insisted it was time for sleepy bye byes. Had to get up, down a can of coke (for the caffeine, beloved wasn't here to make me one of his super wake up coffees) and go for a walk to shake the cobbys. Sat down again at 2:30 and got 45 minutes in before having to do the school run to pick up the kids.

Then we had the usual influx of Friday drop ins. (It's the social night at our house.) So no more writing for me. In total I got another 3700 words down and not the 5000 I was hoping for. (wanting to reach the half way mark badly today but no luck.)

Things I've learned about my MC: he has chest hair. lol!

Also my MC and his personal assistant were schedualled to have a conversation while walking along a forest path. Somehow during the writing it became a full blown arguement with the personal assitant storming off. Hmmm.

This morning I went to Bunnings and ALDI then came back and wrote. I also stuck about half of my poems into my work wherever I'd written the correlating events in my novel. Plus a short story I've written previously. I know it's against the rules but this is my memoir and I will write in whichever way I see fit.

I'm tired and run-down. I think I'm a bit too obsessed with NaNo. I was really annoyed when I had to wait for a long time at the doctors and couldn't write. (Ended up scribbling on a paper bag).

15k to go. I think writing a second will be bad for my health. I may have to finish and re-join the real world when I'm finished this novel.

I'm currently not quite at the word quota for the day, but I'm on a roll. It's finally coming together quite well, even though we're still bogged down in backstory, I like the detail that's coming through. I'm going to have to do the same for Mia, my main female character, though, and because she's more or less on her own (with the exception of her abusive boyfriend, who is not openly abusive...yet), that's going to be difficult. I quite like the Slice of Life genre that's coming through at the moment.

At the 25% mark so I can retire exhausted but (a bit) satisfied. Happy writing all!

I got over word count today! *dances*

I had a wonderful afternoon at work, since I work in a shop that sells D&D it's hard not to, had a great quick dinner and have been amazed at how much 20 min Word Wars, mostly with myself, have pushed my word count.

Congrats to everyone who's made it this far in, it's great work! Keep going, you're doing brilliantly!

Today has been my worst writing day. I've written like just over 500 words. I had a crap day at work. It's 10:30 now and I have an hour and a half to add to this. Can I do it?

Same here. I feel much more productive swiftly going through scenes after scenes rather than being stuck with doing the perfect thing in the perfect order, with fabulous words.

I hit my target of 20k for today, so I'm going to retire happily and hopefully dream about something inspiring.

Good luck, you all ;)

I got just under 7k today. Not bad, considering that I've spent most of the day freaking out about tomorrow (first write-in I've ever hosted!). I made green, though, so I'm pumped.

I dont know if it is my eeepc, or open office, but writing on train going home... sudden dump to the desk top, and utter NO SAVE. I had just written an awesome religious rant, and its gone.. dammit gone!

I've just done two job apps. Now I will write for a bit, get my daily word count at least. Then... who knows...

Today was my most productive day so far and it's not over yet! I've wrtten just over 3000 poorly chosen words. Yippee! I'm just of the 25% mark and I'm still just going with the flow. I had originally planned to kill one of my characters but now I don't think I have the guts. I envy all of you who can swiftly end the lives of your characters without breaking a sweat.

Today was a total grind, but despite spending most of the day working on essays I'm still ahead of schedule for NaNo. Looking forward to the write-in on Sunday.

Retiring for the night at 12,256. I did the one thing not recommended - I read over the enitre manuscript (I figure I can call it that now). And it's not as bad as I thought. In an attempt to make sure my back story is rich and convincing I possibly have too many flashbacks that slow things down. And I have totally forgotten to write in the dental problem thread that was supposed to be an ongoing thread throughout the whole thing.
But all in all, not as hideous I had anticipated, may let hubby read it after all :)

It'll be OpenOffice. Remember kids, especially when it comes to freeware, you get what you pay for.

Also, I'll add to my earlier post and brag that I broke the 10k mark, which is a massive milestone for me. I only just managed 2k or some ridiculously low number last year, and to have something creative hit 10k is huge, IMO. Never thought it'd happen, and yet it did.

Today was a day I also just read over my manuscript. At about 40000 words of largely transcendental, what-is-hovering-in-my-subjective-consciousness type prose and double-speak dialogue, it wasn't easy going.

But mainly I'm feeling a little scared to do my next scene, where everything just goes insane. I swear I will have it started by the end of the night.

It didn't look like I was going to get to five figures tonight, but one big push at 11:55 sent me over.

I've learned that I need to do a lot more planning on the morning train. I write a lot more when I have a good idea of where the story is headed.

That being said, I've finished tonight with two gods having a chat over coffee, so thats a whole bag of story possibilities right there.

Ok, wrote over 2,000 words before midnight getting me past 16,000. Saved my ass.

Well it is after midnight so today is technically I have failed to make my word count. I am planning to push through I only need a few more hundred words. If I start justifying that I can make up the words tomorrow I know it will be a slippery slope.

I agree about the scene by scene approach Red Pen, I have been writing scenes out of order to keep my interest but it is getting to the point where I add a paragraph or two to this chapter and then a paragraph or two to that chapter. I know my continuity is suffering for this, yesterday I wrote several scenes calling one minor character the wrong name, but whatever gets it written, right.

Today I thought a bit about which story I want to write. Then I challenged Liz to Nanowrimo. We're tied right now at 0, so doing pretty well I think :D

I hit 10K this morning and then got jumped by a dream sequence when I was on the way home tonight, possibly due to eating two Krispy Kreme doughnuts (with icing sugar on them and jam in them) while I was out.

I crucified my MC today, literally. On a cross, in his own living room. AND I got him stabbed in the side. I am creeping towards 30k. I like that.

Better huffy up, or you'll make Chris Baty cry!

You don't want to make Chris Baty cry, do you?

p.s. I'm leaving that typo in. The keys are, like, right next to each other.

Also, I had a sudden brain-wave and realised I had all the pieces necessary to make the most epic ending ever to my novel.

Somehow I think I've found a way to have my cake and eat it too.

Um, hi. I've been too busy writing to actually stalk the forums or anything, but yeahhhh. It's actually day seven when I'm writing this, but since I'm still up, who cares! I was a non-achiever yesterday, since I didn't have physically ANY time for the WHOLE DAY. And yay! I'm almost one fourth of the way there, if I'm still on planning to finish my novel at the end of the month. ... Eeeep.

I have written nothing in the past two days. my elbow and thumb on my left arm were aching for the first day, and then the second I woke up and my shoulders were really stiff and sore. Who knew /not/ writing could cause this much pain? xD

I hit the big 10,000 words, which is strange for me. Here I was thinking "me? Write 10,000 words? Impossible!", but there it is! I'm quite delighted. MY story is progressing nicely to the point that I think it will run over 50,000 words. I've been without the girlfriend since the start, but she's getting back on the 13th which I'm sure will cut my word count down, so I'm determined to get ahead while I still can!

Who thought writing could be so much fun!

I have written a small 600 word so far (it's only 1:30pm) putting me at just under 800 (791) Goal for the day si 2,000 words but aiming to get on a roll and catch up some lost time. but It was quite good getting those 600 words down because I started last night and I was sitting up in bed with my laptop for about four hours and only got 200 done but I got the start out of the way and that is always a killer for me as is ending the story but that's far off yet. So how I came to write today was I woke up at about 9 saw my laptop sitting next to me on my bed turned it on and started writing. So I literally woke up and started writing nothing in between was good because I knew exactly what I wanted to write.
Now to see what the evening brings to mind if it is half as good as what I got earlier I will be happy.
