Is anyone here from portsmouth? For some reason they don't have a region so I joined this one. But I feel a bit lonely with all these southampton and winchester people :(

It would be nice to know there's someone in the same city doing this! haha

There are some of us in this region not from Southampton. I'm out of Whitely near Fareham. I've won nanowrimo twice and been unsuccessful once, so if you want advice just ask.

Try and write every day even if its well short of the 1667 words needed to do 50k in 30 days. That way even if you are unsuccessful you'll still end up with 20 or 30k of a novel which in 30 days is a fantastic achievement.

Don't worry about writing stuff you think is not up to the standard you want. If you want to do a rewrite or add something to what you have already written, add a comment in brackets where you need the change and carry on writing as if you have already made that change. Then you will see your editing prompt when you reread to edit it later.

Very few writers get it right first time. Good writing is good editing. I am as yet unpublished but it's only a matter of time before the publishing world beats a path to my door... :)

Good luck

I'm a Pompey lass but am in Fareham now. :) You are not alone. This is my first nano and am very unlikely to make the 50,000 but it's definitely given me the kick I needed to write a novel. I'm really enjoying the ride and I hope to make it but if I don't it's not the end of the world. (I have a chronic illness which makes writing every day difficult.)

That was some great advice, writerchris.

Good luck to you both.

I was thinking of organising a Meet-Up in the Central Library- I've made a topic. I'd love it if people could come!
