Reminded me that I don't have to expect this to be a brilliant novel, that it's actually like a training exercise.
Really liked it, can't believe I got an email from a writer whose novels I've read :)

I know! It was so inspiring. He further reinforced my belief that even though what I am writing is probably going to be terrible it is still an invaluable experience to have. I have read only a little of his work. I was reading one his books until I realised that I had borrowed a book that was midway through the series. But I did like what I read.

I absolutely hate his books, so I pretty much skipped his pep talk.

Well... I love his books (the Thursday Next ones that is, I haven't read his others yet) and I loved his pep-talk. I really was of the "I hate myself and want to die" mindset, but I read that I realised that it's all going to be ok!

I haven't read any of his books -- I would like to, I'm sure I'll get around to it one day. His pep-talk made me smile and feel a lot better about my terrible writing.

I love his books and went to see him when he came to Melbourne - he's really awesome. He actually writes real women, rather than the fake disgusting women that so many men write. He has a a great sense of humour and is really down to earth. He really encourages new writers. His characters are awesome, and so are his plots and I recommend his books to everyone!

i;ve never read anything he has written so no baggage there. I was encouraged by what he wrote especially since I think that my effort this year is my worst writing ever. I am determined to finish this year after two unsuccessful NaNos in a row.
