Jen the Supreme is awesomely showing how fast people can write.

Last year, she cleared well over 400K during November doing multiple novels.

I am decent ( I type around 500 to 1000 words per hour of new material and put in around 4 to 5 hours of typing time on the computer a day ) when it comes to writing speed but Jen is incredible!

Hats off to Jen the Supreme who has already got her 50K and is fast on her way to 100K in the first week of November!

*blush*

It helps that I am blissfully unemployed this month, and generally have no social life so I have a lot of free time. ;)

And all of you are making excellent progress! Go You!! :D

That's crazy!!! Amazing job Jen.

I'm most days stretching to even get to 1667, a day. Spend about 1-1 1/2 hours writing and though I started day 1 over my word count to help buff out the week I'm only around 600 over the daily word count at the moment and worried I'll be under by tomorrow's end of day.

Any sagely advice to us noobies on pacing? Motivation to get through? :D

I don't know how Jen does it, but I make use of small parcels of time to get about a paragraph written at one time.

Also, I think 1,667 in an hour and a half is a very respectable pace indeed. I can't work that fast. I devote maybe four or five hours, plus dribs and drabs of time when I would otherwise be twiddling my thumbs. Helps to have a netbook to lug around with me.

One thing that I do to push myself to write is that I keep a seperate spreadsheet that I list the word count for each chapter.

I then set myself usually a goal of how many words for a particular day.

I also know that it is always better to write a bit more each day then the goal because there will be a day here or there that you might miss.

I know that a few other people like to do word wars where they challenge each other on how many words they are going to write in a given hour.

One other thing that I have is a full outline of my story. I don't stick to it slavishly but it always tells me what I am supposed to consider writing next in the story. This reduces the time that I spend 'thinking' of what to write and get on with the business of writing. This also allows me to break my writing down to pockets of 500 to 1000 words on a scene or topic. Long enough to put meat on the idea but not too long to let it get stale before moving to the next idea.

I hope a few of those ideas help.

Advice, eh? Well, all I can really say is just write. Even if you write just a little bit at a time, just get it written. It will add up!

There's a book I have called "The Pocket Muse" by Monica Wood (which is awesome and worth buying), and inside has a piece of advice that I follow all the time:

Quote:
Tempted to quit early? Make yourself this promise: One more sentence. Say this every time you want to quit early: One more sentence.

And sometimes that 'one more sentence' leads to much more writing and you make more progress. :)

Word wars also work if you're the kind of person who can write under pressure. Write or Die is also handy if there's no one to word war with. (I don't really do either because my brain shuts down under pressure, haha.)

And remember that even if you don't quite make it to 50K, you are awesome (and brave!) for attempting. :D
