There was a tragedy on Ft. Hood yesterday. My heart goes out to all who've lost a loved one and those who've lost their lives. I hope all wrimos are safe as well as their loved ones.

So so sad, such a tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with all who were touched, directly or indirectly, by this senseless act.

I'm happy to say that all Wrimos from the Bell County group have checked in that everyone in their families are okay. One's husband was supposed to have been there, but he decided to go home and eat lunch instead. I'm so happy that he did!

My husband was on base at the time, but wasn't anywhere near it. He called to let me know what had happened and that he was okay before the news even had the story. So, he gets bonus points for being so wonderful and thoughtful. :-)

I have to admit that the sirens and the announcements to remain indoors and away from all doors and windows were scary. It was tense here all day long. We live on base, so we got first hand experience with those. We can also see one of the schools here and those poor kids were in there all day long. I was so happy when the lockdown was lifted and parents were able to go get them. Now, we have armed soldiers keeping an eye on all the schools and daycare centers near us, as well as guarding all the gates into the housing area. It's stressful, but it's "nice" seeing them armed so that they can protect themselves. I think that's what broke my heart the most. They're trained to protect and fight, but were not equipped to do so. In my unofficial opinion, that's just wrong. Anyway! Sorry for going off like that. *sigh*

My heart and prayers go out to everyone more directly involved in this.

My father was at Fort Hood at the time, but like Sldrs, he wasn't involved and called before FoxNews began to run it. :) He didn't get home until 11pm. My mother and I were a nervous wreck the entire day. Thankfully, today, he only had a little bit to do at work, so he was only gone a few hours.
