Was me ditching my WHOLE story this year. I hate to say it, but it sucked. The last few years I've been DONE by this time, so I'm starting to become concerned for myself, but seriously, this story couldn't be left alive. It was like...Dean Koontz had eaten Anne Rice and was pooping prose.
How about you guys, any major disasters?

Oh no! I'm so sorry ... was that the post-apocalyptic fairy story? It sounded so interesting!

Yea, it died. DIED I tell you. My villain was so half baked that I'm pretty sure he would have fallen like a flan in a cupboard during the final scene.
On the other hand, this new one is turning out to be way more fun if for no other reason than I have NO IDEA of where it's going.

Ouch, I'm sorry. It sucks when that happens. On the bright side, at least you're not finding this out on, say, November 29th...

That happened to me last year. I was trying to write background for the childhoods of my two main characters in a post apocalyptic wasteland, and 15 days in I realized I still had them happily frolicking together and no real plot had ever happened. It was too late for me to start over by that point so I kept trying to go with it.
Thankfully my computer crashed a few days later to save me from myself.

I am right with you. I am about 20k in and I totally hated it. I am actually taking the same story, same characters, same idea, but changing the POV and the main plot. Thankfully I can use a lot of what I already had written so it is recyclable, now to figure out my word count. Or just keep it where it is for a while.....

I feel the pain. I ditched my story and changed to something completely different. On the brighter side, i think it might work. Happy writing.

I have about four Chapter Ones.
I don't ditch my purple prose, I just go back to Chapter One and shift the point of view or change to a new character...why, only yesterday my characters were so boring that I decided to make one of them a serial killer! That immediately caught me up and I wrote my 2000 words very quickly.
I'm feeling much more relaxed now, knowing that no one will ever see this drivel I'm pouring out, but otoh I am learning a few helpful lessons.
Like: plots are useful...
Good luck to everyone in the Knoxville area!

I had a moment of frustration last night after talking to another friend who decided I couldn't leave my great forest nameless. Unfortunately I will have to go back (eventually) and fix that. For now, we're leaving it as the Great Forest...
So far, that's the only big mishap I've had. And now my forest has a name that suits my friend, so hopefully no other problems will arise.
Good luck getting around some of the problems you guys are experiencing!

I don't want to jinx myself, but I'm okay right now. Besides being a few thousand words behind, but I'm planning on writing a ton tonight. My boyfriend is going out with the guys, my roommate is in the Pride, and I'm going to have the place to myself to be disgusting and eat pizza and not move from this chair for about 8 hours. haha.

I am making head way and I think very good now that I switched things around. Thankfully I am about caught up where I can take what I did write and make them plug into the new one!

I'm about to give up. I've only got about 2000 words written and the story is boring. So boring that I don't even want to write it.
My muse has fled. I hope it comes back. I left food out to entice it.

I am hoping upon hope that my plot holds out, because I don't write fast enough to find a new one. (Especially since we'll be going out of town for Thanksgiving. I expect to be scribbling away while on that loooong drive - from the passenger's seat, of course.) I'm terribly nervous it won't hold out for all 50,000 words, as I'm only nearing 14,000 and am already having to start on the bit I hoped would be the last half. Of course, that doesn't mean I won't be popping back and adding huge chunks later. Plus, two things I still need to figure out are what ended my heroine's last relationship (cheating? distance? death? aliens? eggplant? poor writing?) and what to do with a character who keeps circling on the edge of my mind but currently has no place. Much as I've been against it since I started developing my main character, she might yet end up with a big brother.
Also, I'll be obsessively backing up onto my flash drive and hoping that circumstances beyond my control don't have me starting over. Although, if I did start over, mysterious unplaced man might find a purpose... No, self. bad thought. This is NaNo. Just chuck him in somewhere and worry about continuity and editing in December!
