There, that got your attention didn't it.

OK, I am actually asking a sex question here...I am jsut interested in general and for the sake of my novel.

1. How many sex scenes is too much in an average novel?
2. Do you prefer descriptive, suggested, or the time loss method? *
3. If you wrote a descriptive scene do you feel obliged to do that again in the same novel or would you do a descriptive and then a 'time loss' in the same novel?

Main reason, I have a fairly descriptive scene (I would class it as erotica for this chapter) and I am in two minds as I am at a sexual junction in the story. Another scene could happen very soon and my gut is telling me to do a 'time loss' type scene.

*
Descriptive = Full details.
Suggested = soft focus silhouette type descriptions
Time Loss = For example "They looked at each other and went up to bed. The next morning they awoke in each others arms." So the whole scene doesn't exist at all.

It depends if this is supposed to be an erotic novel or not. In mine there are multiple acts that involve sex but are not sex acts because they are a prelude to murder.

Once again it depends on the scene on whether the description fits better or not. Some sex scenes require description and some require time loss or suggested. All the sex scenes don't need to be the same. Go with what your characters want. I am not keen on time loss because it is rather dry and boring but that is my personal thing. I prefer description and suggested. That however comes from my views as a writer of Erotica.

This is just a quick reminder that this is an all-ages forum, and as such we ask that you please keep a family-friendly tone. If you'd like to discuss something of this nature, let me suggest the Erotic Fiction forum, where you'll find plenty of non-explicit advice for sex scenes.

This is an all ages forum just like many of the others on the NaNo site. Other forums which openly talk about murder, rape, homosexuality and more in stories. Why you have focused on the Calgary forum when you are not even in Canada is intriguing. It says clearly in the terms and conditions that we can write out stories about anything and in the original post I asked a legitimate question in a very polite and tame way.
If you yourself was offended by the post then all I can do is suggest that you do not read posts titled Sex. I think I made the content of the post pretty clear by the subject.
If there are children in these forums then their parents should be looking after them and would not allow them to open a link to a post titled Sex. And even more so parents of children using the internet should have adequate knowledge to ensure that certain subjects do not make it through the firewall. If they do not have the knowledge or technology for that then they should be sitting with their child whilst they are on the internet at all times.

Paul, I did not focus on Calgary. I am the forums moderator for *all* of NaNo, and as such, it is my responsibility to enforce the very terms and conditions you mention. Yes, you may write about anything you like, however, sharing anything you like is not one of the freedoms the terms and conditions grant.

Had your post been in violation, it would have been locked or removed. I am referring you to a more appropriate venue. It has nothing to do with me being "offended" or not. I do not, I'm afraid, have the option of ignoring posts. It's my job to read them. ;)

Parents have a reasonable expectation, as outlined by our Codes of Conduct, that regional forums will not contain content inappropriate for children. We have multiple forums where you may discuss content of this nature. I suggest that you do so. If you would like to continue to discuss this, then feel free to send me a NaNoMail (as outlined in the Codes of conduct.)

Since this topic is not family-friendly, I am closing it. You are welcome to repost your thread in a more appropriate forum such as Erotic Fiction, where you will likely get better answers anyway.
