Anybody else use Dr. Wicked's Write or Die? Yesterday I strained to write 853 words. It took hours of procrastinating and staring at the last few words I had typed. Today started pretty much the same. Then I was peeking here (in yet more of my procrastinating) and I saw the link on the home page so I checked it out. 1027 word in 46 minutes was a whole lot better than 853 in sixish hours! Working on getting another 2k before dinner.

Thought I would share. :) http://writeordie.drwicked.com/

Thanks for the suggestion fynralyl! It looks ... intimidating, heh. How does it work?

I think I'll poke it with a stick first -- that 'kamakazi' setting gives me pause ;-)

I did avoid the Kamikazee setting. I think if you don't type, it starts eating your words. I did a test run of 1,000 words and if I stopped doing anything on my keyboard, I had about five seconds for the background to turn bright red and "Peanut Butter Jelly Time" to start playing. Needless to say, it encouraged me to keep my fingers moving. I ended up writing over 3,000 words in 2 1/2 hours using the web application.

It was annoying and pushy, but I LOVED the results! It didn't give me time to rethink anything I had written or to think about what I was about to write too much.

I imagine it wouldn't be nearly as useful if you turn off your sound, so CRANK IT UP! :-D

*pant pant pant* @.@ holy crap! Did 1037 words in 55 minutes. I haven't been able to do that many at all! Yay though! That was fun. I'll have to do it again on a day off when people aren't online >>

Yeah, you don't want to even attempt trying to multitask while on a Write or Die adventure. But one thing it does do is make sure you make the best use of the time you do set aside to write. ;-)

I use write or die all the time :D It keeps you moving forward even if all you're doing is hitting the spacebar and looking at what you've already written. Really what it keeps you from doing is getting distracted.

And yes, in Kamikaze, it will undo what you've written letter by letter until you start typing again. I generally try to avoid that mode unless I'm really procrastinating.

I love Write or Die, I hadn't used it this year until last night. Over 3000 words in two hours, which was much better than what I had been doing this week. I have to use the Kamikaze mode all the time though, because the songs don't bother me. I need a real threat to keep me pushing through.

I'm going to have to try this out. I've been using Momentum Writer. It helps me to not edit as I go (you can't scroll back through or even use the backspace), but it doesn't force me to write faster. Thanks for the tip.

Whoa, okay, so I tried it (just on normal setting -- we'll save the kamikaze setting for desperate-r times) and :

Yay! I love Write or Die! I agree on Kamikaze... if normal is doing what you need it to, then you can save Kamikaze for when you seriously can't concentrate.

I was seriously behind after coming out of a weekend where my husband was home FOUR DAYS in a row. I'm still a bit behind, but I actually wrote OVER 5K words today. That's the most I have ever written in a single day.

Thank you, Write or Die!

Whoa! 5000 words in a DAY. Did your fingers bleed? Yipes.

I understand about the whole 'when SO is home, the writing no get done' thing. I do better when my guy and my kids are elsewhere, too. (although I miss them when they are -- Catch 22, I guess.)

Well, thanks for pointing WoD out -- I plan on using it again, I like it too.

What did you think doncav?
