While talking with a friend of mine, I accidentally discovered the secret to her ever growing word count. Good evening, I'm O'Rourke.
I don't know how many people are familiar with 'Write or Die', but for those that aren't, I'm hearing some pretty nice reviews. I'm going to try it out and help raise our region's average. Huzzah!
Here's the description of this wonderful little thing;
"Write or Die is a web application that encourages writing by punishing the tendency to avoid writing. Start typing in the box. As long as you keep typing, you're fine, but once you stop typing, you have a grace period of a certain number of seconds and then there are consequences."

So, besides it not only being tailored for NaNo, its also full of win too, ya? Remember, we'll rant and we'll write like true Newfoundlanders!

I'd heard about this in the forums, but thought it sounded kind of irritating, so I didn't try it. Then last night at the NaNo meeting, everyone was talking about it and how useful they found it, so I figured I'd at least give it a try today, figuring if I hated it then I could just go back to typing in Word.
I've got to say though, it does help me a lot. I set it to 500 words or so, and pound them out in a pretty short amount of time. It's also really awesome when you go back and paste those 500 words into your Word document and see your word count shoot up all at once.
So yeah, I recommend people try it at least once, even if you don't think it sounds that great.

I did it on evil mode for 15 minutes, and I only stopped and had the red thing come up once.
I pounded out 1003 words. I did it twice, the first time I did it I got 900. I had not written today or last night, so I really got my word count back on par quickly.
