My FMC is homosexual and she is/was Catholic. Can someone explain to me specific reasons why Catholicism does not accept homosexuality? (I'm not trying to offend anyone for any reason, I just need to know why for my plot)
Thanks in advance!

It's not that "Catholicism does not accept homosexuality." Nothing wrong with WHO you are. What the Church doesn't like is sexual activity outside of marriage for heterosexuals as well as homosexuals. (And the Church defines marriage as that between individuals of the opposite sex, so you can't use the "marriage is legal for us in our state" clause.)

As a sometime Catholic myself, I can think of three arguments that the Catholic Church invokes against homosexuality.
First, there is the belief in "natural law", according to which the male and female sexes were created to complement each other. A union between two persons of the same sex would thus be contrary to natural law.
Second, there is the belief that sexual relationships are meant for procreation alone. A union between two persons of the same sex cannot bring life into the world, and is therefore "disordered".
Third, the love of God for the Church is traditionally symbolized by the marriage of a man and a woman. A union between two persons of the same sex is contrary to this ideal, symbolic relationship.
Unofficially, of course, the Church is often accused of being anti-sexual in general, let alone anti-gay.
For further information, you could Google the Catechism of the Catholic Church and its specific sections of homosexuality.

There is a good web site by Dave Armstrong--- he's a Catholic convert from an Evangelical church who has written some books on defending the Catholic faith and I believe he has some good stuff up on the Church's teachings re: gay people.
From my own perspective--- for me as a Catholic convert it's not so bad that the Church requires chastity of Gay people since chastity is also required of the Pope. So it's not like Catholic priests are telling Gay people to do something they are not doing themselves.
Good luck with your novel.
