Well, I hate to do it, but I'm withdrawing from NaNo this year.

I've looked at everything I need to accomplish for work by the end of the month as well as inflexible plans I have in place for travel, and for a while I still thought that I could squeeze in NaNo out of desperation.

But when I woke up this morning and the cold I've been fighting off had won to the point where I'm just a wee bit dizzy, I had to face it -- I'll be lucky if I get all of my WORK done, let alone my NaNo. Plus I'm studying for a master's-level course with the test in early December.

So, yeah. I'm a little bummed out, but I will be back next year with a vengeance.

It is actually quite understandable and I admire the fact that you have taken the inciative to call it quits. (I probably should do the same as everything must be done in November but I found that NaNo actually helps me to do work.) Anyways, hope that you feel better soon and that the upcomming months smooth out a little.

I do hope you are feeling better soon. But NaNo wasn't a failure for you this year because you have 2528 more words written than you did on Oct 31, right? Anyone who even tries this is a winner as far as I'm concerned, and I think most Wrimos believe the same. Go get yourself well and write!!

I agree, you should be proud of what you have written, no matter how many words it is!

Hope you feel better soon.

And hey, it's only the 10th. If you decide you want writerly company, stop by any of the events, whether you're going for 50k or not. It's understandable if you can't (and even laudible -- no sense taxing your health), but you're certainly welcome to.

Sorry to hear about your illness, and I hope you come around quickly. If you can join us in any capacity later in the month, please do so.

I feel for you. I've had busy times like that and I understand that when things get tight, it's the luxuries that go first.

On a related note, I have decided to withdraw for this year, too. For the last week, I kept finding other things to do (distractions) rather than write the novel I started ... including writing a short story that I mailed off to a magazine. While I *could* finish the 50,000 words if I wanted to do so, it turns out that I don't really want to do so. I'd rather play in the shorter forms and poetry than keep working on a long form that has lost my interest.

Good luck to those of you who keep pushing through.
