Hi!

I just came up with a brick wall. How much were secretaries to Hollywood movie stars paid in 1935? Were they paid by the week or by the month? How many secretaries would a movie star have to manage appointments, personal correspondence and fan mail? If the movie star is a freelancer (not affiliated with a film studio), how would the hiring process go? On average, how long would a secretary stay with her employer? Would she be expected to leave her job upon marriage and/or pregnancy?

Thank you very much!

I don't think they had secretaries? Actors/actresses were "owned" by their studio and part of the whole, big production which, in that era, was changing rapidly:

I wouldn't put the salary at more than $600 a year from what I've read. Don't forget, most secretaries/clerks were still men!
