Anyone up for a 5K challenge?

I am so far behind in word count that I have to try for it on Sunday. I hope to add 5K to my measly word count.

I'm going to a mystery writer conference next weekend so if I'm ever to get a head it has to be this week.

Anyone else need motivation? Anything extra you can write now will get you ahead and hopefully keep you ahead. I have nightmares about being behind and having to write the last three days or so without sleep. I did that one year so I know, for me, its not a good thing.

So who wants to join me? I’m starting now!

Maybe not 5k, but I need at least 4k to catch up! I've been falling behind because of homework and SATs and just not being able to write anything. I stare at the page, knowing what I want to do, knowing I need to do it, but no words come out! *shakes characters* WHY ARE YOU BEING SO UNCOOPERATIVE!?

So yes. Motivation! We can do this!! (I hope!)

I'll also try to start/keep going now! Just keep thinking "5k, 5k, 5k, 5k, 5k, 5k," then in your dreams 5,000 will be floating around and there'll be a lovely little chant of "5k, 5k, 5k, 5k," always with you. But is that a good thing...?

Good luck!!

God, I need like . . . 8k to catch up at this point, but 5k would be very helpful, too. I guess I'm in lol.

How long do I have? Till the end of the day Sunday?

Having my birthday in the middle of the first week threw me for a loop. It looks like I'm in.

Isn't it fun how life gets in the way?

Trying for around 12k before I go to bed tonight, but I'll settle for 11k if my brain dies. I'm only about twenty words away from 9k, so it's coming along! Just need my characters talking a lot, and tons of description....

*runs away in fear of getting more distracted*

Oh thank you all. At least I'm not in the alone. Yes, you have until tomorrow night at say 11:55 PM so you have time to post.

Anything you can do will move you forward.

I really hate it when I have to look at a blank page, but if need a good laugh go see what I just posted regarding the latest Pep Talk from NaNoWriMo.

Good luck on the 5K. I'm going off the site until tomorrow so I add to my word count.

Good luck, guys. I was hanging out with word mage and neoscribe at the East Brunswick Starbucks tonight and competing against each other, we all put up big word count numbers. Neoscribe rewrote like 5000 words (he lost a bunch of his novel because of an MS Word snafu), I had over 4000, and word mage wrote about 3000.

You can do it!

Shesh, I don't know how people write so fast without getting distracted. D: What I really need right now is for someone to break my internet.

I'm planning on writing right now until I pass out, but while I want that to last it can't be super late cause I have work in the morning x_x

Pfft, I'm always distracted...

But I was having such a crappy time writing, until I was in the mood to write something depressing (if you're sad, why not make your characters sad!) and I found a whole other side to my "villian", and skipping to a different scene, the words are coming out so much easier...! Except I'm getting tired...

The internet is such a good place for research, inspiration, motivation-- but also distraction! *sigh*

But let's keep it up guys! We can do it-- we're NaNoers, Wrimoers, WE'RE AWESOME! Embrace the awesomeness, even if it feels more like crappiness. *gives virtual hugs and cookies*

How are you all doing? Hopefully you are behaving and writing unlike me being here online.

I didn't manage to get on a roll and hit a new plot idea so I'm halfway to my 5K goal but I will have to break to make dinner soon.

I just chevked and Central Jersey is still in 48th place. We can move that up with this challenge when we all post tonight. Remember what ever you do today will move both you and the region forward.

See ya'll later. Keep writing.

How are you all doing? I hit 5013 words at 11:32 PM. I really didn't think I'd do it but I got on a roll and that always helps. If it keeps up, I can make Chris' challenge off hitting 15K by tomorrow. What I don't need right now is to hit an wall.

I can't thank you all enough. I offered the challenge because I knew it would make me work. As a LM, how could show up here and tell you I didn't make it?

Keep moving toward that 50K.

I hear you. Ditto for me this weekend. Unless I can figure out a way to drive and write at the same time. Can't do the tape recorder thing as I will have a friend in the car. LOL

Ugh, unless I can get 3k out in 20 minutes, I've failed. *head/desk*

I ended up having a crapload more homework than I thought and spent all day doing that, and am STILL working on it. My poor word document has been sitting it's poor little minimized state all day... *sulks in a corner*
Stupid life getting in the way of NaNo! D<

Hope you all did better than I did!!

Ellfie,
You didn't fail if you wrote something. You did you homework and at this time in your life that always comes first. That's how I feel. I'm still behind on my word count but I'm 800 words ahead of Chris. so that makes me feel better. Even if you don't make 50K (and you still have plenty of time) you'll still have more of a novel than you did on Oct 31st. Don't knock yourself down.

If later on in the month you hit a point in your novel where the words keep rolling out, ust use it like I did yesterday. Thats what works for me.

Hand in there.

Hey guys, I know I"m super late to this party but just suggestions: set a specific time to write and even a time limit if it helps (7:30-9 was my time). Find a place where you can avoid as many distractions as possible (a mattress on my bedroom floor staring at the bottom of my desk). If listening to something helps, set the TV on low (if you can avoid watching) or choose a song to listen to (personally, I go for piano or solely instrumental so I don't get caught singing the lyrics). Most of all, avoid checking your word count too often. It's really easy to get distracted by going, OH NO! I've been writing for fifteen minutes and I only have 100 words! Just let it happen. If it really helps, minimize your task bar so you can't keep checking the time. I know these are probably just basic tips but I thought I might try to help. I've been having to kick my own butt into gear as I'm missing four days of writing this week.

I should have posted this earlier, but is anyone up for a 5K challenge today? Tomorrow?

I hit my 5K by noontime today and I plan to do another tomorrow. I'm now a little ahead on my word count because I really, really hate my NaNoWriMo project this year and I just want to get it finished so I can move on to something else. Anyone else feel this way?

On the up side, I figure this is training for when an editor asks me to write something I don't particularly care about. I can do it; it just isn't nearly as much fun.

I'm actually trying to get in 5k right now. I haven't even hit 25000 yet so every day in week 4 may be a 5K challenge. :P

....and I'm hating my Nano too! The protagonists pulled a fast one on me and turned out to be completely spoiled, self-centered, arrogant jerks. So WHINEY! Ugh! But I'm starting to put them in more interesting scenarios now so maybe they're become likable again. Maybe

At this rate, I'm killing them by Traveling Shovel of Death after I hit 50K. It will be a cathartic experience. :P
