My MMC is about to enter into a tournament to become second in command to my FMC, who is a Dark Lady and is trying to take over the world. He needs to win. I already have tests of physical prowess, magical prowess, tactical skill, the ability to think on his feet, and I am considering what other things I would need for him to be able to do.

Any suggestions?

He would totally win the swimsuit competition! She already asked him to be her Consort, though, and he turned her down.

And Integrity/Loyalty is a good one. I'm just not quite sure how to test that...

ooo, and a talent...how about juggling fire-breathing poodles?

if you're looking for a serious answer i would suggest exceptional willpower or loyalty. You want your second in command to be determined as well as loyal (so they won't betray you.)

If you're looking for a more humerus addition- i like the idea of an essay or perhaps a song about the dark lady's skills

Loyaty and suck-up-ism are frequently difficult to distinguish.

This test can be done in secret. Hopefully you've seen the old Willy Wonka movie...Remember the creepy guy under the bridge when Charlie first gets his golden ticket? He offered Charlie money (or something like that) if he stole a piece of candy? And then in the end it all turned out to be a test to see if the kids could be trusted with candy making secrets?
Perhaps something like that. But a bit more...political.

I am always blown away by the responses I get on this site!

For the essay, I don't know that he would bother to write it. He'd probably just fail out on purpose at that point. And I don't think that Kit would make him do an essay anyway. She wouldn't want to read them. Maybe she'd make them write up a mock-post-battle-report? She wouldn't want to read something illegible.

No talents required though. Besides, he can sing, so if there were a talent competition, that would be it.

Exceptional willpower or loyalty? Well, he's already got the loyalty thing down, but I might be able to come up with something for exceptional willpower. I'm having visions of a maze...

A song about the lady? He'd totally win that. He's a Master Bard.

The ability to be answer to Kit? I think he's proven that already, what with being on her council and all, but I don't think she wants another yes-man. For a typical dark lady, that would be perfect though.

Political Tact and Manners he's already got. He's a well-respected, decorated war veteran. That wouldn't be an issue for him at all. I don't know that he's terribly manipulative, but Kit's more than enough for both of them.

I guess technically he's already been tested for the integrity/loyalty thing, when he handed over the previous second as a traitor despite having no real reason to.

Thank you all so very much for the answers! I'm going to go torture... I mean write this contest now.

Thanks!
