The bad guys in my story are called Them. No one is alive who knows their real name.

The magical blade that is going to save everyone is called the Nameless Blade.

Ha! Love it. Same boat here. I keep referring to "the recent attack," "my enemies," and "the other kingdoms." Basically, unless it absolutely, must have a name right now, I'm just throwing down a vague description.

Hahaha ... _love_ The Nameless Blade ... I think you should make that a theme for the whole book, everything of great power will have as generic a name as you can manage.

cool :) I love it.

UNtil 2 mins ago... the 3 characters that i have so far were He, She and his neighbour.... I have just given them all temporary names (vincent/vin - a name suggested by my b/f), Sarah (my daughter's name) and Mandy (from thin air)...

Oh my god. That's fantastic.
And it reminds me of The Secret Show. Which really just makes it that much more amazing.

Or be nameless...even the important village is just known as 'the village'.

You should rename the blade to The Nameless Blade of Great Power. That way every time you reference it, you get three more words into your word count :-D. Or something equally as pretentious, like The Nameless Blade That Will Save Us All. That's *five* extra words!

I feel a little better about the evil creatures in my book now. Dark ones, dark hounds(hey that was an improvement over dark ones) and shades(the name sucks but I like some of the story elements behind their creation). But I know what you mean, I am struggling to come up with the name for a magical hammer. I just usually call it the hammer or his hammer. It is pretty important as it is the main magical "thingamajob" to quote eddings.

As I'm writing, work colleagues, schoolmates, friends and other minor characters all have stand-in names at the moment: AAA, BBB, CCC, DDD, EEE, FFF, etc.
Whenever I figure out what I want to name someone, I run a "find and replace" on my entire document. Hasn't happened a lot lately, though...
