I would like to thank NaNoWriMo for giving me the perfect excuse to go out and buy the new red shiny Dell Inspiron laptop I've been wanting for so long. (Dude, I gotta Dell! Sorry, I couldn't resist. You're probably sorry I couldn't resist too.) It's much smaller than my Acer, it's got Windows 7 (which I really like, so far), the battery lasts for hours and hours (even 9 hours, depending on what I'm doing).

The sound is better too, which is a plus since I'm also a singer songwriter musician who finds that the perfect soundtrack can really boost the writing to an unbelievable degree. Speaking of which, the perfect soundtrack is in the process of downloading right now. It's Bear McCreary's Battlestar Galactica. I love this music. :) So, of course, I also had to buy new earbuds and an auxiliary cable so I could keep the music going on my MP3 player on the car stereo too.

I also got a new laptop stand. This one is wire mesh, so it breathes well without having to use a USB powered fan like my other one. And I can set it at different angles which really helps my wrists and cuts down on typos, which helps me fight that inner editor critter that bugs me so much.

As for software, my main app is Rough Draft, which is a very simple program with a minimum of distractions.

But since I crave distractions, er, I mean, since I need some help with things like, oh, character development, structure, plot, you know, little things like that, I also downloaded yWriter.

And the best thing about these little apps is, well, they're little, and they're also free, my favorite price.

I downloaded other demo's, but I haven't played much with them yet. I used PowerWriter and PowerStructure a few years ago and I downloaded them tonight for the new laptop, but I haven't opened them up yet. And a few minutes ago I paid the $10 for the Write or Die app I read about here on the forum. That looks interesting too.

Okay, I'm obviously in a long-winded writing kind of mood, which I should be putting to use in my novel, so I'm going to go write now and leave you alone. Well, not alone, there's probably a few hundred thousand other writers in here, okay, I'm through now.

Happy noveling, novelists!

Disciple :)
