So, how are we all doing? Chugging along at a steady pace? Barely making daily goals? Or moving along at hyper speed?

Usually I'm barely making minimum this year. Dont' know what's wrong with me, but I've been having trouble finding the time to write. Ah, the joys of a college senior: no time and a million and one things to do.

How's everyone else doing?

Doing good, to my surprise.

The words come out fairly easy this year but there are times when it feels like pulling teeth.

Not even making daily goals, but chugging along regardless. Taking notes at work and then transliterating what I can into the night. Frequently been waking up with laptop still in my lap, pages of a single letter typed...

I am amazed at how well I am doing this year. I think it helps that I am not taking my novel too seriously and just writing a fun story, and that I am sitting in American history class Nanowrimoing instead of paying attention to the lecture. lol

Great... Between school classes, school registration, loans, work, learning two languages and hospital bills... *sigh*

At least I'm finding a bit of time. Finals are almost over, I'll catch up then. XD

I'm so dead.

I was chugging steadily along--barely making my daily goals, and getting them in just a few minutes under the wire most days, huzzah!--but I didn't do a single word yesterday or the day before. So now I need to do 5,000 words today to meet my quota. Good times!

Other than that minor setback, though, it's going surprisingly well. My premise was no more specific than "take three characters that I've had rolling around in my mind for a long time, keep bouncing between them narrative-wise, and see what happens," but I keep finding ways to connect everything. Which is surprising, considering they're entirely differently-styled characters from distinct worlds. It's pretty cool, actually!

I am really surprised how well I am staying motivated as compared to last year. I'm quite a bit ahead of where I need to be and am still in the mood to write more today. I think I'll probably hit 30k by this weekend :D

I'm behind, but a couple of 4,000 words days would fix that. I usually like to be ahead at this point, because I fizzle out at the end. No such luck this year.

The name of the game here is motivation. I knew this was going to be a tough year, and I'm finding it hard to stay interested in this novel. It's not my usual type of writing, and I wasn't really in the mood to try something new. Sadly, it was the only idea I had fleshed out to any great degree.

Hoping I can get some inspiration from others here in Monroe, but it's been deathly quiet so far.

I'm doing well... passed 23K this morning, and trying to hit 25K tonight.

Not bad, consdering I've been fighting off Salmonella poisoning for the last 6 days, and I have a full time job and 4 kids.

All in all, no complaints. I'm humming along now.

How do you do it??? I have a full time job and only 2 kids, and I am about 8,000 words behind.

How do I do it? Lots of coffee and Mountain Dew, and a *very* understanding and sympathetic wife. I'm right at 38K words, and still have 11 days left. Still fighting off the salmonella, it's been almost 2 weeks. Lots of fluids (I know Mt. Dew shouldn't count as a fluid, but meh, you know) and writing on my breaks at work, and some more when I get home, and some more when the kids go to bed after I read them bedtime stories. And not staying on my regular web forums for hours on end.

Well, you can see how long-winded I am, that doesn't hurt making my daily goals ;)

Sorry to hear about the salmonella. A co-worker had a bad case last summer and it took weeks for him to get back to normal. I wish you luck. Oh, and your cover art is very nice. Very nice...

Thank you! I'm slowly getting better, not 100% yet. I made the cover art in Gimp (like Photoshop) and I'm pretty sure I'll make 50K before the 30th, granted something crazy doesn't happen.

Keep going, folks!

I think I'm packing it in. There is a very slim chance I'll see what the winner's shirts look like this year and get motivated to finish, but I don't expect it.

I know NANO isn't about perfection, but I'm writing especially bad prose this year. After looking forward to this all year, I started with low motivation. It took four days to settle on which novel I would write, and that set me backward.

Has anyone else noticed that the Louisiana forums lacked some of the excitment we had in previous years? It looks like lower motivation or real life troubles got in the way for many this time.

Best of luck to those who are plowing onward!

Though this is my first year, I did a lot of forum snooping when I signed up in April. I was surprised to see such active forums. I was hoping to see the same for this NaNo, but I am not shocked at the lack of activity.

Too much is going on. I Know I pushed myself way too hard to hit the 50k mark. It was not smart, but it was the only way to complete my novel.

Life. Work. Family. Pets. Drama. Money. You name it, and it's a concern.
It's completely understandable. The reality of the current climate, I suppose.

But, there is always next year.

One of the plusses of finishing the challenge this year is I'll be able to help, possibly as an ML, next year. Currently Louisiana: Elsewhere doesn't have one on the list, though there's a few people that are close.

I'm definitely feeling the effects of pushing myself, but as you all know, sometimes that's theonly way to get things done, and I've been putting off writing a novel for years.

As much as I knew I could do it, I didn't expect it to be this hard, or drain me this much. I couldn't have planned on being sick, either. I think if I were going to write another book (not for NaNoWriMo) I would do it in 2 months, only 1000 words a day is very doable without killing yourself. It's when you have to find time for 2000+ that it gets hard.

Still, good luck, all. We're almost there.
