I'm pledging myself to something very eccentric. I'm going for 50K by 3:00 PM on Nov. 20.
Reasons: I want very badly to win 2009 NANO, with a worthwhile novel (as I thought 2007's was, except that in two years I've lost some copies and what I retained wasn't complete). Then I just discovered, or realized, this afternoon that the three older grandkids have not 4, but 9 days total, vacation from school for Tgiving: Nov. 21 – Nov. 29. Well, that's a potential loss of 9 days' Writing Time, as it's difficult to Write in a household of 5 adults and 5 children, ages 11 months to 10 years, and my only computer is a reconditioned desktop in my daughter's living room. The children's bedtime is 8 PM, so no computer use after that; and I usually try to escape to my separate quarters when they arrive home at 3:15, as my babysitting day (which begins at 7 AM on weekdays and 5 AM on weekends) is usually over. I may have to start (THE HORROR! THE HORROR!) writing in my bedroom, in illegible longhand. (O please O Writing Angels, deliver me from that!)
I don't have a working laptop so couldn't participate in a write-in, don't have transportation, and babysit all day 7 days a week. Whee! So my determination must be cranked up to Intense to do this. I will.
