I'm currently using the copy and paste into the box method to update my word count. My word count on the computer (I'm using OpenOffice 3.0) says that I'm up to 9004 words, but Nanowrimo keeps saying I have 8913 words. In addition, whenever I select my manuscript, I check 'number of words in selected piece of writing' It also says I'm up to 9004 words. Nothing is in Italics, bold, or underline. just 9004 words of New Times Roman. Is the problem on my side or the webite's?

Thanks!

Please see this thread.

Since you are using Open Office, you are likely seeing a miscount in Open Office Writer (lots of word counting bugs in Open Office). Some people see a thousand or more words "disappear," though the reality is that the words aren't actually there.

For what it's worth, for a test I pulled down Open Office 3.1 and found that it is doing a better job of counting than prior versions did.

In the thread above, I mention a number of the typical culprits; hopefully one or more of them will assist you in figuring out what is causing you to have the word counts increase. You might want to see about updating to the latest Open Office version to see if it does a better job for you..

Hmmm. Oh well. It's not the end of the world, only a couple words. Thanks!
