The French are number 26 in the regions and we are going to beat them this weekend. Central Iowa is #31. That is pathetic. We were just behind the French last night and two other regions passed us.
In order to beat France, each of us is required to write 514 words in addition to what you would normally do. Then we will pass the French. Will the demon come up with punishments that could be worse than the humiliation of the French beating us?

Check out the Regional info tab. I am looking at any region that has as many or more word count as we do but has more word count per author.
Hmmm.
Sound like fun?

I e-mailed the ML of the French region to ask if they accepted our challenge. I got back the following e-mail:
You don't frighten us, Central Iowa pig-dogs! Go and boil your bottom, sons of a silly person. I blow my nose at you, so-called writers, you and all your silly Central Iowa k-nnnnniggets.
I don't wanna talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough wiper! I fart in your general direction! Your mother was an hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!
Yes! Go! And remain gone, illegitimate-faced bugger-folk! And if you zink you got nasty taunting zis time, you ain't heard nothing yet! Daffy Central Iowan K-niggits! Thhhhhhppppph!
It's on. We will not be insulted by these Frenchmen. Let's write a lot this weekend to catch up to them and leave them behind.

Mary suggested that I make it clear that I did not really e-mail the French ML with our challenge. You do realize the e-mail I quoted was just Monty Python quotes. I don't really know French.

Well, I just heard from some of our French novelists as well. A couple fellows named Phillipe and Jean Claude. They're pretty rude (which I guess should be expected from the French). An excerpt of the conversation:
Phillipe: O-ho! After we defeat you, you will be our slaves and will have to fetch us our slippers!
Jean Claude: And iron our trousers!
Phillipe: And wipe our little noses!
Jean Claude: And scratch that spot on our backs we cannot reach no matter how hard we try!
(Bonus points to anyone who can identify where this came from. :) )

Yes! (lol) One of the joys of having children, is remembering all the stuff I used to watch with them when they were little. I had to look up the exact dialogue, though.

You know, I want to know what the geographical and population differences between Iowa and France are. Okay: we're 56k square miles, 3 million total population. France is 260k square miles, 65 million total population.
AND WE ARE ONLY ONE REGION IN IOWA. We are smaller in population and land mass, and we're only represented by at best a third of the state.
I say, given this, we are KICKING their ass. But I still want to beat them by total word count and per/person. Because then we're really wiping their noses in it.

We are only 106 words per person behind the French. There are no regions between us and the French, so if we beat the French we will have to go after Emporia, KS. We should catch up today or tomorrow. Be careful and don't rest on your laurels. We will get those silly French even as they sit on the wall of their castle and taunt us.

I have goals. Some mighty big goals. In order (as of this minute) they are:
1) Beat France in average words per author. Right now they are 106 ahead. We can do that.
2) To heck with Emporia, let's go on to Dayton, Ohio. This is a region very close in size to ours (about 8 people different). They have a higher total and a higher word count per author by 1,895. Let's beat that.
3) With those regions out of the way, now we can look at some more lofty goals. Right now we have 159 people with a word count. How many of those do you think we can have as winners? My goal? 100. I think that's low, but let's shoot for that. For now.
Whatcha think?
This is the BEST region. You are working your tails off and I am absolutely proud to be affiliated and supported by you all. From time to time, I try to give you some words of encouragement. But it's the words of support that you provide the whole group in these forums.
Keep up the great work.
Next question: Why are you still reading? We have work to do, regions to beat, authors to win.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Dayton Ohio has fallen as well. We have thoroughly skunked them in both total words, and in words per author.
It's worth noting that as of right now we are at #29 for words per author. That's #29 IN THE WORLD. Would anyone else be up for cracking the top 20 before November is out? :-)
