Phil! Dude! Do you own stock in this website? You've pimped it no less than 3 times in 3 threads this morning alone!

;)

I'm going to agree here. It's neat software, but it's too distracting for my tastes. I'm fond of Ywriter myself, but "to each his own."

=)

It was too funny. I had to call you out :) But in all sincerity, I'm glad you found something that works for you.

I'm a fan or Write or Die, myself. I tried it for the first time myself last night, and I loved the web version so much that I went out and bought the desktop version so I can use it when I have no internet connection.

I rock out write or die, too, and keep my novel on Google Docs.

I too use Google Docs although it has alot of limitations. I can't get it just right for the 25 lines per page a manuscript is supposed to be. I can't get it to show PAGES, it's just one super long document. Because of that I have each chapter as it's own file. Because of that though I have to append the actual word count in the file name to add up later. Also because the chapters are separate files I cannot maintain a running word and page count automatically. Meh.

I use gedit on my Ubuntu netbook. It has a nice full screen mode.

I started writing it as a .txt file, but now I'm using latex which makes it easy to format as a book. I have one latex file which has all the main formating directives and one for the bulk of the text. If I decide to edit it in the hopes of publishing it using createspace or something, I'll break the chapters into separate files so I can edit them one by one and rearrange the order easily in the main formatting file. (I'm writing the chapters out of order.)

My formatted pdf's look great. My writing sucks. But my typesetting is awesome.

If anyone wants my latex scripts, I'm happy to share.

Gonna be using Storyist for final edit and writing.

If you have a mac I'd highly recommend it.

I'm primarily using Star Office on my netbook, which is great because my files are compatible with MS Office, which I use on my laptop at home and my desktop at work. But Star Office can save as any number of different file types.

Google Docs drives me crazy b/c it won't keep my formatting from Office. I tried it once or twice and gave up.

But I am intrigued by some of these other programs that you all are bringing up.

I did some research and I finally chose Scrivener. I also downloaded Storyist for the free trial. So far I like the interface of Storyist but Scrivener seems less constricting.
