I don't even know where this idea came from, or how these people got in my head, but I'm starting to strongly dislike all of the characters in my book. They are cloying and annnoying. Also, they speak in ryhmes...sometimes Argh!

They better not try to go all sappy love sick on me..or I'll whip out some aliens and a few light sabers, take them all off at the knees, make this a dream sequence, and turn this into a sci fi novel!

On-line Write-ins

I went to my first on-line write-in last night. I really thought it would be us chatting about our stories and writing in general, giving each other "You Can Do It!"s, and talking about what worked for us regarding that evil nemesis, Getthewordsout.

Well, it was those things, but what it really was, was writing. Write-in; should have been a clue, but I thought this was a NaNo way of saying "chat," what do I know? (ha!) Anyway, what we did was chat for a bit, and then on the quarter hour have a 15-minute Word War. No, I didn't know what that was, either, but when Amaseya says "Go!" everyone pulls up their documents and starts banging out words for 15 minutes (I set a timer), and then report back with a word count.

Peoples, I wrote over a thousand words spaced out over two word wars.

So, the point of all this is, is that if you're having troubles word-count-wise or feeling lonely, try one of the on-line write-ins if meeting in person is unavailable. I'd love to meet in person, but this was wonderful! Plus, I had a chance to meet some great writers and share those sizzling writerly endorphins, well, you just can't beat it!

The next write-in is tomorrow night (Nov 9th, 7:00), and I plan to be there for sure! If you haven't done one, go ahead and sign in early--it's a very easy process but takes a little time. After that, you just sign in your name and it's all good :) Hope I see you there!

Beating a Personal Goal

So today in Chat NaNo I made it my goal to get over 400 words in a 15 minute word war with everyone. Though I was disconnected from the internet partway through, thus losing contact with the people I was warring with, I still managed to stay on task and just barely made my goal with 428 words. That's a new record for me! As a reward I treated myself to a chocolate brownie. Mm~

So has anyone else made any goals this month? Have you beaten any? I'd love to hear your stories!

Favorite writing helpers

I'm always curious as to what other people use to help them in the writing process. I'm not talking the programs that do it, but the little tricks that help you out. I recently re-discovered the wonder of shower crayons. I picked some up after wandering around Meijer one night. Finally I have a way to jot down notes of all the great plot twists I think of in the shower that before I always forgot by the time I got done.

Anyone else have anything they've found that works well?

Just stopping in to say Hi. I'm in Macomb township. I've been a stay at home mom for many years. This September I went back to college and I couldn't resist doing NaNo. It should be interesting. I never did NaNo before, but I did do something like this about three years ago. I reached 50K words (although the novel wasn't finished).

Hi, all! This will be my second winter in Mio, and I just wanted to say how much I love the NaNo! How about it for inspiring the words? Well, that and delaying them, which is what I'm doing right now--Kara (Procrastination) Gnome, that's me, heh.

Anyway, I'm originally from Tucson, AZ, but I adore it here. It is so beautiful; icicles, growing under mailboxes? Who knew?! I was hoping to meet other writers in my area, but so far, here, the closest area so far is Cheboygan, which is about an hour and a half away ::waves::

Well, on-line chats it is, which is fine :) Hope to meet some of you there this coming Thursday. Tonight is a dinner invite, tomorrow is bowling night; I love this place! so, Thursday for chats, but if anyone is around Oscoda, I'd love to hear from you, too, and maybe we could plan a write-in, too, which I have never done but would love to go for :)

I started out so well - nearly 5,000 words in 2 days I was on a roll and then...tragedy. I thought I hit the save button and closed the computer for updating, came back and nothing - it was all gone. I'm so not happy with myself right now, but I've been plugging away all day and have managed to recreate and retype all of it if only slightly altered - so of a rewrite in my head.
