Raksasi is hosting--potluck!!! I'm bringing celery with flavored cream cheese filling--trust me, it's awesome!--and maybe some chips if I have a chance to go shopping. PM LimeCat for the address--I'm going to be out of town and offline till Monday. I don't think she wants it posted in public here.

Everybody is welcome. Last year we had a great turnout, including some who didn't make it to any of the other meetings. We've all been through the same pain, whether we finished or not!

Well, well, well... two times out, two times a winner.

I started out ok, fell WAY behind but this last few days has allowed me to not only catch up, but win.

I have to thank my wife, Trish, who allowed me to stay home before packing her up for the craft show in Bismarck at 5 today... that 3 and a half hours allowed me to get the 4000+ words done and get to 50K for the second time in two years.

Who else is close and ready to peak?

For those who haven't gotten close or don't think you'll make it, don't fret. Maybe you just need encouragement!

Day four, and I just can't get into the story, but I can still manage to "make" myself sit down and churn out 2K words in 2 hours or less, so I'm still on track, and I'm satisfied. It's mostly garbage, but, hey, this is NaNo!

Not sure where our ML is, writing, I hope, but just a reminder that, unless LimeCat gets new info and tells us otherwise, we are having a write-in on Monday the 19th at 7 p.m. at Parallax, same location as our meet and greet. If you need directions, PM him, that's HIS job. (Because I can't remember and I'm too lazy to check the archives.)

Fargo NaNo'ers, come to Barnes and Noble Thursday 11/15 at 9PM to meet your fellow novelists. This will be an important milestone -- if you're keeping up the pace, your novel will be half finished (and, yes, most likely still a bit half-baked as well). We've been meeting in the reading area on the left side of the building as you come in through the front doors and walk past the cashiers.

(I'll be the guy reading some edition of The Onion's many books)

As for me, this will be my 3rd year. My first year was a victory, then I suffered the sophomore crash-and-burn last year. This year, I expect to do well. ;-)

So, the first Bismarck write-in is complete! Let's go to the tale of the tape:

In attendance: 6 (grrrltalk, glnritchie, vivacious, raksasi, Wyndspirit, and me! I claim no guarantees for spelling user names 100% correctly).
Words written total: 9,007
Time spent actually writing: about 1 1/2 hours.
Time spent eating and procrastinating: who knows.

We have another write-in in scheduled already for November 19, 7:00 pm at Parallax Computers and Games. I don't believe this will be a potluck, though.

Potential NDSU Student Write-In

I think it's a good idea that, perhaps next weekend sometime, we have our own festive author party. There's a study-lounge area in Churchill Hall's basement that basically nobody uses, and especially not on weekends. It has couches and expansive work desks that would provide plenty of room, and its just two doors from a set of vending machines stuffed with all forms of culinary jubilation. Others have proposed we use a Minard Hall room, which is also a possibility. We could, if a good location exists, also hold it off campus if necessary too.

I'm going to arbitrarily pose the night of Saturday the 10th. It probably won't be an all night occasion, but we can schedule it so that it's ready. Ideas here? Objections? Preferred dates/times? We'll figure it out here.

Fargo NaNo Kick-Off

I was just wondering if there is going to be an official Kick-Off in Fargo. I read that some people were talking about it. I think that we should set up an actual time and try to have a real kick-off. I'm in school right now, so I'm super busy and I won't be able to set up anything. Actually, that is a lie, it is more that I am just lazy and don't feel like doing it. We need to have one though because Bismarck is, and it only seems fair.

Bismarck NaNo Kickoff Party

I once again apologize for this, but I do not have the exact address for this place...

The Bismarck NaNo kickoff party will be taking place at Parallax Computers and Games (on Broadway, across the street from Dairy Queen and between Feist Electronics and D'Joyce Photography). The date and time for this: October 29 (Monday) at 6:30 pm.

Anyone new can meet the old timers and the old timers can figure out exactly what it is we'll be writing... if you haven't decided, that is.
