I've decided to go ahead and use henderson panera for the northside write ins. So that people know, yes, there will be write-ins there.

However if you can't make it feel free to organize something closer to home. (Thinks of those in pickerington and all those other outlying areas such as delaware if it's all too far away).

I like Panera on Henderson and HIgh, seems more accomodating... although Kerouac is also very good as they ahve that second room. Dunno about victorians as that sounds like it'd be really tiny. The panera up on campus doesn't even have a reserve room.

So...

So I wrote this novel... Now What?

There are a ton of amazing resources that have spawned themselves off of NaNoWriMo.

The first thing I suggest, especially after last month. Let it rest a while. You're still attached to the story so you can't make the right decision on what should stay and what should go. So if you give it a rest, you can see it with fresh eyes, and that will help tremendously because it won't feel like it's yours anymore.

So, I'm saying... Take a break.

Go get some coffee, read that mail that has been piling up, go make sure that the pets are still alive and that your SO if you have one is still talking to you. Clean up and take out the garbage that's been piling up all week. And, if you're feeling up to it (writing everyday is a good habit to keep) you might start something small, something so unrelated to the novel you just finished that it feels fresh, and inviting, just like week one all over again.

Then, maybe if you're feeling around to it, and you like what you've written there's this little gem:

National Novel Publishing Year is a web site dedicated to people who've completed NaNoWriMo (or not), and it has duties involved once a month to get you toward publishing your novel.

And if you get stuck with editing and don't know where exactly where to turn to when nouns and verbs and adjectives and plural adjectives and all kinds of funky little other kind of things:

Also good is William Strunk's little book too, "The Elements of Style".

So there's plenty to do once you get this finished up.

Is anyone interested in other things too, like monthly get-togethers or anything other like that? We had fun once creating all kinds of interesting writing exercizes. I really liked rolling for a character background and writing stories around that.

I've been so busy trying to cross that finish line and get ready for Turkey Day, that I almost forgot!

Last year we had the TGIO party over at Mongolian BBQ. There wasn't nothing wrong with Mongolian BBQ, it was quite nice and tasty however I need to know how many people are going to make it this year. So that way I know.

The date I have in mind is December 7th considering the fact that december 8th they're having a Blue Jackets Game and that won't be good.

HOw many people can make it to a December 7th TGIO?

Marysville Write-Ins Scheduled!

For those in the Northwest Quadrant (read that as Marysville area, Plain City, Marion, Outer Dublin, etc.):

There are currently TWO Write-Ins scheduled at the Marysville Public Library. They will be held downstairs, in the meeting room.
The first is Tuesday, Nov 20, 2007 from 5:30 to 7:30.
The second is Tuesday, Nov 27, 2007 from 5:30 to 7:30.

Disclaimer: Please be aware that there will be at least one person working on a manual typewriter at both of these events. There will be noise involved. Noise that, I hope, may be just the tonic your writing has been missing.
Although seeing a manual typewriter may be frightening to those under 25 and those with weak hearts, it is considered rude to shriek, gawk at, or poke the typewriter.

All-Day Last-Minute Hyphen Write-in!

I know that a lot of us are having tough spots in our novels at the moment. And ther eare some of us who are hopelessly lost behind.

I propose an idea. I'm thinking of setting up a last-minute all day write in on Tuesday Nov. 27. For those of us who are a little bit behind and need that boost and encouragement to get to that 50K finish line. I'll be there probably four hours at most. Writing. I try to make November a writing month even if I finish.

I'm thinking, word-wars and other various things to keep the spirit of NaNo going, and to help boost word counts (For example, if you do a 30 minute word war, you can on a good moment get anywhere from 600-1,000 words!)

It'll most likely be at Panera and High

It's not a legitimate reservation, but I'll be there with markers indicating what tables are ours. It won't be hard to notice. :)

Westsiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide Writer looking for buddies

Hey everyone -- I'm on Columbus's West Side, out by Galloway (though technically within Columbus borders). Are there any West side groups or RL meetings going on? I feel locked to my Mac; I need to get out & interact with live writers!

erm, though I'll admit to having cheated on this -- I found out about NaNoWriMo kind of late (2nd week November), when John Kovalic started up a thread of his Dork Tower cartoons on it. It was a god-send. I've been in the process of re-writing (aka "extensively overhauling to the point they're all-new") some old tales of mine for the past few years, and have been using NaNo as my last ditch impetus to GET THE SILLY THINGS DONE ALREADY. However, since starting, I've gotten a lot further along than I was and managed to get past the "stuck" point I've been in for the past few months; everything I've written since starting NaNo has been new to the tales in question.

Write-In Tonight in Marysville

Yet another reminder:

A write-in is scheduled for this evening at the Marysville Public Library. It will begin at 5:30 PM and is scheduled to end at 7:30 (though we can probably stretch it until the library closes at 8:00).

The meeting room in which we will gather for novelling is downstairs, in the A/V/Computer room, I'm told.

This is a Typewriter-Friendly event. Any and all writing technologies will be welcomed equally (Quills, Slate-n-Chalk, Portable Computing Devices, AlphaSmarts, Typewriters, Wood-Covered Graphite Marking Sticks, etc.).

Hope to see some of you up in my neck of the woods!

Hey, my name's Amy, and I'm a second-year English and Anthropology major at OSU attempting NaNo for the first time. I've thought about doing it for the past, oh, five years or so, but this is the first year I've actually committed myself to trying it. I'm going to be writing a fantasy novel that's been stewing in my head since middle school.

Any other OSU students out there and, if so, interested in organising an OSU kickoff? None of my friends that I've mentioned this to have ever heard of NaNo, and I'd love to meet some students who have!

Any Southern Outlanders out there?

All the talk I see is coming from people who want to meet in the northern portion of Columbus. Well, I live 45 miles south of Columbus. That is just too far for me.

Is there anyone who is in the Southern quadrant who would prefer to meet somewhere around Grove City/Groveport area or even further south? The cost in gas alone to Henderson Rd area is prohibitive to many in this area.

The numbers alone for those already signed up say that 99% won't be attending one central meeting. Then there are those who simply do not deal that will in large crowds. It would only make sense to me to have many meetings around the area.

I'm not sure just where in the Grove City/Groveport area would be a good spot, since I really don't frequet it that much, but I could reach it much easier and be more willing to make the trip.

I live near Hilltop and Valleyview. There has been talk of a write-in at the Westland library but nothing has come through yet.

Beating those Week Two Blues/Widgets are back!

Okay, well, I know how hard week two is. It's one of the most challenging parts of the month.

Don't give up yet!

A lot of this is the fact that we've gone well into the 15K territory and we're kind of trapped wondering why we're doing this. Things are already starting to pile up, like dishes. Your cats are giving you pleading looks of attention (Almost deleting half of your novel which you banish them to the livingroom). Your boss is starting to wonder where you went every day, because you're wearing a glazed over look and restocking items upside down. It starts feeling like crossing the Atlanic Ocean in a bathtub with a spoon for an oar. (FEel free to use metaphore somewhere.)

When I used to work for a callcenter I had a very wise training leader tell me this wisdom which would work for NaNoWriMo as well: "The first day, you're going to want to quit. Don't. Day two, you're going to want to quit. DOn't. Day three things start looking up. By day four you're sailing right through it!"

To help along with this and to boost morale we have Word Widgets. What's more satisfying after finishing five hundred words or more, than to see a progress bar go up, milimeter by milimeter? What's fun than having a widget that allows you to compete with a writing friend on the word count?
