I can delay no longer. It was my intention to visit each of these places and make sure they had a “Novelist At Work” sign up before posting their businesses here... but due to unforeseen occurrences I have not been able to do so. Therefore, here is the list and I will endeavor to visit them throughout November. These are on the list because some one of you or other has suggested them.

Thanksgiving Weekend Write-Ins

So who's up for some spastic write-ins during Thanksgiving weekend--Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Did you challenge yourself and found that not only you were up to this challenge but you had fun in the process? Kudos to you for having a dream and doing something about it! We hope it is worthwhile enough to merit a small donation to the Office of Letters and Light for your enjoyment of the event. NaNoWriMo is a nonprofit, and—like all nonprofits—ever in need of funding.

This year the estimated cost of National Novel Writing Month and the Young Writers Program is over $375,000. For additional information, see the Where do your donations go? page. So NaNoWriMo has done a couple of things differently this year.

On Tuesday, November 24, headquarters is hosting a 24 hour online fundraising drive. They have set the crazy goal of raising $100,000 in donations in one day. The Breaking News article, Help us embarrass ourselves this Tuesday!, has the details.
They have divided up the regions into six leagues for a Donation Derby listed under Fun Stuff on the Home Page. Our region is on team no. 2, the Siberian Tigers. Each region is in competition with the other regions within the assigned league. Your donations count towards our region’s total donation, just like your word counts are applied toward our region’s total word count.

Visit NaNoWriMo’s Donation Station to make a contribution. For as little as $10, you can have a halo on your profile. Of course, there are several other donation levels with goodies to match.

How does our region get credit for the donations you make online through the donation station

Make sure you are affiliated and homed with our region, USA :: Oregon :: Eugene/Lane County.
When you've selected a donation amount in the Donation Station, you'll see several text boxes.
In the Which event owes you its thanks? box, select NaNoWriMo
in the NaNoWriMo/Script Frenzy Username box, make sure to type your user name.

The regional totals for word count and donations are linked to a) your user name and b) where you set your home.

Your donations made on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 will apply to Headquarters goal of raising $100,000 in one day as well as to our region for the Donation Derby. Donations made through Monday, November 30th will apply to our region’s ranking in the Donation Derby. Donations made through December 31 will apply to the 2009 NaNoWriMo.

Oregon All-State Write-In -- Carpooling from Lane County

Who is attending the Oregon All-State Write-In?

Please post in this thread whether you need a ride or are driving over yourself. I would like to set up carpools if needed. Please do not post your personal contact information. I will Nanomail each attendee with my contact info so that we can set up meet times and places for the carpools.

If you did not RSVP to the Lincoln County ML and still want to go, then send her a Nanomail or email her directly and ask to be placed on the waiting list.

This is the third year of the event, and although attendance has increased each year, we did not expect interest to be so incredible this year. This bodes well for next year.

We've reached our maximum room capacity for this event! It's a fire code thing, i can't negotiate it. :( I'll keep a waitlist for anyone who really wants to be on it in case of cancellations, but i can't guarantee anything of course.

Welcome to the third annual Oregon All State Write-in! Newport, Oregon is honored to host this year's madness. :) We've got an awesome location this year - the Oregon Coast Aquarium! Which means that if you slack off on your word count we'll throw you to the sharks! (Not really. But i do wield a mean Sea Cucumber...) We'll be located in the Gleason Event Room at the end of "Passages of the Deep", and are planning on having a whole host of fun things to do, including word wars, inner editor inprisonment activites, and wandering around the Aquarium or the nearby Hatfield Marine Science Center (with or without me as your chatty naturalist guide. ^_^ )

For food there is a resturant on site, called Local Oceans. They have excelent seafood that's been caught right here off our coast. You can see their menu here You can also get a hand stamp (for re-entry to the Aquarium) and head out to the town (i'm happy to reccomend/take people to resturants).

Please RSVP as soon as you know you can come - an accurate head count is really important to us this year. For more info or to RSVP e-mail MLbrightshadowsky(at)gmail(dot)com. Also, if you are coming from farther afield and need to stay over in order to make it work please let me know. For those who would like to stay in a hotel i can reccomend cheap yet nice ones; i also have info on a very nice B&B. If money is an issue we may still be able to work things out - please contact me!

IMPORTANT: We are not being given complimentary admission to the aquarium (because they waived the room fee, hurrah!) so an accurate head count is VITAL, as we are attempting to find enough comp tickets and aquarium membership holders to get all Wrimos in free. Please, if you are coming, RSVP EARLY! If you have a few bucks we are going to take up a collection to help cover any extraneous admission fees if not enough comp tickets can be obtained. If all or part of this money is not needed (and i hope it's not) any left over will go directly to Nano as a donation. Can you donate to the admission fund? Let your local ML know and i'll be in touch with them.

Guests are welcome to come but limitations will have to be imposed in two areas:
1: Only Wrimos will be given comp tickets or a member's pass. Guests will need to purchase their own entry into the aquarium. Admission prices and other info can be found at the Aquarium website. (www.aquarium.org)

2: The maximum occupancy for our meeting room is 60. I'd be over the moon if we had that many people attend, but should this number be reached Wrimos will have precedence and guests will be asked to entertain themselves for a while.

I am Darfinkle, aka Liz, one of your Municipal Liaisons. I am coach, moderator, liaison between you and headquarters, event hostess, casual writer, accounting student, tutor, and origami nut.

I joined NaNo in November 7, 2005. My job was ending, I was considering returning to college, and I had written very little in 20 years. I stumbled across this rather interesting but strange site called nanowrimo.org while surfing the Web. I signed up, wrote like mad and finished in the nick of time. The following year, I returned as Municipal Liaison. I love it.

Which character is AWESOME in your book?

We all have them, that one character in our story that whether by design or happy accident is just AWESOME. Fun to write, very cool, just so amazing you have to tell everyone you know about em! Post your answers here!
Mine is the protagonist, she's Half Fairy, Half Vampire, angry teen age girl with goth leanings and an attitude not to mention some serious power and skills. She's also the "Prophesied One" destined to bring together the Fae and other otherworldly creatures living our thier lives hiding in plain sight here all over the world current day.
Her name? Philomina Opalescyant Lillis Aphrodite Roswyn Seren. Just don't ever call her that. Its Phil, just Phil. She's not mine, she sprang from the mind of my BFF and when she told me of her and the book's basic premise, I just HAD to tell her story (fortunately BFF not only doesn't mind but is happy I'm finally bringing her creation to life) and Phil is in a word awesome!

I am wondering if anyone is interested in having me take photos with your writing handle, date and goal (i.e. 20,000 words ect.) in front of landmarks/vehicles or the like on my post in Iraq. As long as I avoid certain areas I can take photo's of quite a few unique places or vehicles under the Army rules. I thought that setting up a reward for achieving goals (even something as silly as a digital photo of your name/goal in a picture from Iraq) might help some of us stick with it. If you have other ideas for similar rewards from past years or you want me to do something like this for you let me know.

Word War Anybody?

I would like to start an aim chat Word war. Basically I will start a chat room and invite people who post their aim names on here. Then I will give time intervals in which everyone writes. When the time is up we compare how many words we have written in the allotted time with others. The highest amount of words wins. I noticed on the introductions thread that there are a lot of UO students doing NaNo. We should set up a place to gather and collectively novel on weekends or something--non-students would be welcome too, of course. Unfortunately, my free time lately has mostly been spent sleeping, so I haven't had much time to explore all the good spots on or near campus. Any suggestions?

Is anyone interested in a write-in in Springfield? I went to this coffee and deli place to write yesterday called Aquila and Priscilla's, and they have a meeting room with tables and chairs that doesn't cost anything to reserve (they just ask that people buy stuff). I didn't ask if they were open on Veterans' Day, but I thought maybe that would be a good one since a lot of people have work off that day, or maybe a 6-8 write-in? I wouldn't want to go up against the Papa's Pizza write-ins. If anyone else is interested or has another suggested place in Springfield, lets talk about it :)

Write-Ins with kids

Anyone interested in gathering WITH their kids? We'll probably get next to nothing done, with semi-supervision going on, but how much do we really get done anyway, being interrupted every five minutes as it is?

I have several places that I like to go with my kids, none of which give me online access or electricity, most of which depend on the weather. But the kids have fun (4 and 8), and leaving the normality of home can spark inspiration. Most important though, the kids will have fun while you write! If you don't have a laptop, bring a notebook for brainstorming... at least you'll be better prepared for when you DO have time to sit at your computer...

If anyone is interested, please let me know. I'm happy to set up crafts and/or scavenger hunts, and I have a wonderful location in mind already (weather permitting) for this weekend.

We could try it once, right? If it works, we could make it a regular thing. PM (NaNo Mail) or post here, and I'll contact you via PM.

Update about this post: i simul-posted this in all the Oregon forums, which has the interesting side effect of causing all replies to show up in each forum as well. I apologize for any confusion this may cause when arranging car pools. :S Feel free to continue using the original "You're invited!" thread in your region to organize - i still keep tabs on those as well.

1: We've got 36 50 people who have RSVP'd at this time. Awesome! But this means that there are only 24 10 more people who can come before i have to cut off RSVP's, because our room cap is 60. If you are planning on coming RSVP ASAP!

HOW TO RSVP: Please send your e-mail address to me either by nano mail or to MLbrightshadowsky(at)gmail(dot) com. I will send you an invite to the Google Calendar entry to this event. You do not have to have a google account to use this invitation. If you are RSVP'ing for a group please make sure to use the option where you state how many "guests" you're bringing (i know they're Wrimos and not "guests")

If you've accepted/declined/maybed the invite you got - THANK YOU! If you haven't, please go find that e-mail and confirm your RSVP. There's 11 people who i know said that they were coming and yet they haven't confirmed the e-vite yet.

2: tickets into the aquarium. I'm doing my best to acquire as many tickets as possible to get people in for free. i have about 15 free entries into the Aquarium lined up as of this moment. Obviously that's something of a shortfall. i'm going to do my best to get as many more as possible, but if you are able to afford the admission price (Adults (18-64) $14.95, Seniors (65+) $12.95, Young Adults (13-17) $12.25) please bring it with you just in case. We'll be taking advantage of the 10% discount that members get on all admission prices so you should get a discount if nothing else.

3: If we hit room capacity: i'll make sure to send an e-mail out to those who have already RSVP'd to remind them to update their status if they can no longer come, and begin compiling a waitlist. We can't exceed occupancy of the room, and there will be an official guest list we'll be checking people off against. Please RSVP - if you just show up at the event you can pay to get in and enjoy the aquarium but we won't be giving out any of the free passes to you and you won't be able to join us in the event room. I hate the prospect of having to lay down the law like that but i never expected this event to explode as it has!

4: Sorry for all the serious, heavy handed stuff, guys. :) We're going to have a great time, and i've already found myself in possession of one heck of an awesome raffle prize. i LOVE my chamber of commerce! And no, you don't get to know what it is yet. :)
