I know of at least three Panera's in Knoxville. There are ones located on Broadway, Cumberland, and Kingston. Which one are we meeting at on Tuesdays?

Today's Write In

For a while, we've been going to the Panera's on the Strip near UTK, but since Mogget and I have been the only ones showing up to those and we have a Panera's closer to us, we'll be going to that one around 3 today.

It's on Kingston Pike, across from the Kroger's and next to Marble Slab Creamery. I don't know the address exactly but it's off of Forest Park Blvd - you'll know it because it's all construction through there.

Anyway, just letting you guys know just in case you need an excuse for lots of coffee and writing!

Since this thread was deleted when the forums were removed, I figured I'd start it again! Here's your place to introduce yourselves and tell a little about who you are and why you NaNo...

Alias/Name: Rae/Rachel, you can call me either of those!

Age/Age Group: I am currently 22 years old and fit nicely in the college-age group. (I added the age group in case people don't want to specify their ages!)

Area: I would probably fit in the West Knoxville category if you had to call it that.

Novel Genre: I'm writing fantasy this year and have a whole story planned out. Feel free to check my novel info for more details!

Interest in NaNo: I consider myself a writer despite not pursuing any type of writing-related field in college. So my interest is partially born out of a desire to hone my skills and partially out of the need to expend my imaginative nature (due primarily to being an only child and reading too much).

Fun and/or Random Fact About Me: My birthday is Halloween, so I'll be turning 23 right in time to begin NaNo-ing like crazy on Nov. 1.

Hey all you Knoxville NaNo'ers!!

I don't mean to repost... or perhaps I do... BUT! One of our fellow writers just gave me the heads up that my previous post had an unfortunate title. (One on the main boards... and a running joke... but possibly not known by all.)

So here it is again, just in case any of you hesitated about clicking on my previous post thinking it was an advertisement, or SPAM...

I don't know if any of you have seen the thread 'Free Shrimp Dinner' on the main forums... but several NaNo'ers are making that dream a reality... whether in purchasing gift cards and giving them out, or passing out 10 free dinners from Captain D's. (This started out as a little 'joke' but has escalated.)

I was going to offer a $25.00 gift card to two people on that forum who not only wins NaNo, but has the best novel synopsis. (In my opinion.)

But I changed my mind...

Instead of offering it up to the normal threads... I'm offering it to the Knoxville, Tennessee NaNo'ers. (Or surrounding area... but must belong to our group.)

Me and a few other people who are unable to make it to your write-in in the middle of week are coming to gether to do our own unofficianl write-in at the Panera Bread Company at the Turkey Creek Shopping Center Saturdays at 7 PM. We have a few people coming over from Cookeville for the event; anybody is welcome to drop in.

Dear Neighboring Regions (and Australia),
Greetings from fly, the ML for NaNo Nashville. This year, we are having our own ginormous write a thon, which we'll be holding the same time those out in Cali are having theirs (well, mostly). We would very much like you all to come. In fact, I would very much like to have so many writers that our total writers word count EXCEEDS that of the Cali event.

Details are as follows. Please post here if you can come.
NOTE: You only need to RSVP to one thread for this event.

The Evening of Scribbling Recklessly is on 11/22 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Nashville.

Where: 2300 Knights of Columbus Blvd. Nashville, TN

Where? - From I-40, exit Briley Parkway South (exit 215A), take the first LEFT onto Knights of Columbus Blvd.

When - 11/22 from 4-10 PM.

Important Notes:
$10 donation required for admission. This is in addition to any donation you've made. I will waive this for anyone that can prove they came from Australia.
Bring a side dish to share. Remember, we're pretty much all going to have computers handy, so stay away from really messy stuff. :)

We will be having a ton of giveaways.
You can get tickets for these givaways in a number of ways:
- Admission fee. Yes, you automatically get tickets for showing up.
- Bringing a dish to share like you're supposed to
- Wear a NaNo t-shirt. This can be from any year, and can be national or regional. I'll also accept Script Frenzy and Office of Letters and Light shirts for this.

Nanowrimo At UTK!

Naturally, some us Nanos here in Knoxville are also college students at the ~~cheap~~ prestigious University of Tennessee. Some of us, like myself, are commuters but as I did Nano last year on campus, I know how annoying it can be to have to drive out to write ins off campus and possibly lose your precious parking spot or have to nag someone to drive you.

So I propose that we have an alternative write in day, maybe once or twice a week after class. I would be happy to stay on campus on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from about 5:00 PM on to brainstorm with my fellow college students. We could meet at the library, Panera's, the amphitheater, or anywhere else that suits your fancy. Weekends could work as well, but I'd like to steer clear of game days!

Any thoughts or suggestions? Would anybody even be interested?

Can You Please Help Me .... NaNo Project Help!!

I was hoping y'all could help me just a wee little bit.

As a side project during November (and actually, I'm more into this project than I am with my novel), I'm asking everybody to send me postcards from which I'll base a story.

All I'm asking is that the front of the postcard is actually a place of some sort (Parks, City Scapes, Monuments, Museums, etc.... whatever) and that on the back, you write a character name, the character's age, and a sentance or a few words about that character.

Stick it in the mail to me, and (starting November 1) when I get it, I will use the image on the front and the character on the back, to write a short story of at least 500 words. (Just think 100 postcards, and that's another 50,000 words right there.)

Hey, everyone! Happy Nano! I just wanted to let you all know about an awesome FREE software that I use just about every day with my writing, even with the non-fiction (articles) I write. It's called FreeMind, and it's an excellent brainstorming program. It's fairly simplistic, and with a little tinkering, you'll have it down in no time. I have a file saved for each of my manuscripts, and now for my NanoNovel.

Also, a book that I think is priceless is The Writer's Little Helper. It has short chapters, which helps my short attention span. What tools or tricks do you all use that make a big difference?

Local Write-a-Thon(s)?

Some of us have some ground to make up. Some of us just want to get ahead. In either case, that's nothing a good twelve to twenty-four hour block of solid writing time can't cure. Personally, I had been planning on just staying up all night on Black Friday to produce a hardcore word count, but the more I ponder on it, the more I wonder if anybody else might be interested in an organized write-a-thon some time later in the month.

So, is anyone planning an all-nighter in the near future? Anybody interested in a group write-a-thon during/after the holiday weekend to secure/cement victory?

I have been approached by a journalist for the Knoxville Sentinel paper this afternoon. She is writing an article about NaNoWrimo and wants to know more about it from Knoxville's WriMo's.

I have invited her to attend a write-in and she will be coming to take pictures as well as asking questions and interviewing. I do not know as of yet which write in she will be attending and will let you all know on this thread. She is looking to interview both newbie and olbie's to NaNo as well as different ages and genres.

I will be scheduling a phone interview in the next day with her.

All right...

I'm starting this thread for us because I find it amusing, and it might provide some sort of either a) entertainment value, or b) inspiration in the middle of November when we're all sweating for words. I got this idea the night of the planning party and just have been too incredibly lazy to put it up.

Since no one beat me to it (not that I figured they would), I'm going to start it now. This is the thread for you to post your best NaNo One Liners, which can be anything from your crappy villain's hilarious one liner to that thing someone said at the last write-in that had you in tears because you were laughing so hard. (Even if it was only because you were exhausted and half-hysterical from a much-needed word count boost.)

I'll start us off with a one liner from the planning party that had us all cracking up...

(Granted, when you take it out of context, it's hilarious. Ask me if you want to know the story or check it out with one of the MLs.)

Write-In Sadness

So I got some news this week: effective next week, I will be working an evening shift three days a week (most likely till 10 or 11 Monday-Wednesday). While I'm actually excited about the changes to my work schedule, it struck me this morning that it means I won't be able to participate in the Tuesday write-ins at the Cedar Bluff Panera (unless I can arrange to take my lunch break around 7).
SOOOO... I was hoping maybe some of y'all might be able to consider another night/time for a write-in? I know there was some discussion among the UT students about meeting Sundays at the Cumberland Panera; I'm not a student but I live near there so I'm thinking about trying to make those... unfortunately, at this point I'm only going to be available Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.
Anyone interested? I hope so!
