Random Meeting of the Wrimos: Tuesday night, November 24

So, because I haven't been to any write-ins yet, because I seem to live in the middle of nowhere where there's no write-ins nearby, and it's almost the end of November, I requested, though the online chatroom (tinychat.com/txnano), to have a random meeting this week before Thanksgiving makes everything all crazy.

Here's the current plan:
House of PIes
6142 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX
(713) 782-1290
6 PM, Tuesday night, November 24

So far lumos_aeternum and uchuunoyanushi are so far onboard, as am I. If anyone wants to come, please RSVP so we can get a table :P Also, we're not sure if this is just a hanging out or typing meeting, so I will update that by Monday night.
North of Houston Write-Ins

So... Elephande and I have been discussing good times for Write-ins, and we've figured out two times that work for us, in two different locations, so maybe, just maybe, it's convenient for all of you other Conroe, TW, Spring, etc. people out there! So, here's the tentative schedule... (And Pata, if you want to put this on the calendar, I'd love you forever!)

Mondays from 2-5ish
Panera Bread near the Woodlands Mall

Fridays, time TBA (probably afternoon)
Montgomery County Central Library, near I-45 and HWY 105 in Conroe

As it is, we're planning on meeting up this Monday, the 26th. So if any of you can come, that'd be great! :D

Is it simply establishing the main plot? Revealing the enemy? Or just even writing ANYTHING today?

Did you succeed with writing a nice sentence? Finding a great qoute that will boost your story or make a cool chapter title?

Inner Loop

To the Wrimos who live in the center of our city,

Any suggestions for write-in locations this year? Last year we met at Te Tea House on Fairview. It was a good location with excellent food, a big selection of tea, and free wi-fi...so I'm going to throw that out there for consideration.

If you habitate in the inner loop area (this means you too Galleria dwellers!) I really hope you'll consider participating in the write-ins this year. Last year was my first NaNo experience and it was good to know that I wasn't alone in this endeavor of insanity. I also found it infinitely valuable to have other Wrimos there to bounce ideas off of when the plot bunnies stopped multiplying!

So what days would work best for you and what are some of your fave locations to write? Let's get some write-ins planned!

Challenge 2009: Trash Talkin' Texas Style

Hello, Lushguins! This thread is cross-posted. That means it will appear in both the Austin and Houston forums simultaneously. Your replies to this thread will appear automagically in both the Austin and Houston regional lounges.
---------------------

Hiya! It's flickguy here, via lazym. I asked her to post this for me so it could be cross-posted to Houston.

My fellow Lushguins, as of Midnight on the morning of November 1, WE ARE AT WAR! A word count war, that is. Fighting to write the most words on average over our very worthy opponents in Maryland.

Here is the promised Trash Talk Thread, in which we will goad them into wasting precious hours bad-mouthing us while we ignore the bad-mouthing and write write write.

It's a brilliant strategy, no?

What follows is an excerpt from the Official Rules to remind us not to go overboard in our goading and bad-mouthing:

---------------------
Trash-talkin’

Each team will have a clearly labeled “trash talk” thread. The Lushguins trash talk thread will be in the Austin Lounge. Trash talk is to be posted ONLY to the trash talk thread and should remain in good fun and within the bounds of good sportspersonship.

Our God-like powers

Challenge Coordinators decide what “good sportspersonship” means.

We reserve the right to remove folks from the competition for any violation of the rules and guidelines listed above.

We are the final authority in any dispute or question about the rules.

Remember It’s All in Fun

In the heat of competition, we sometimes forget it’s just a game. If you have a concern or question about anything regarding the competition, please contact your challenge coordinator before you post.

Plot Twists! Tell us yours!

So, in order to get some more topics flowing in the Houston forum, because you know, I need more procrastination in my life, I am asking for your story's twists and turns. You know you have some! Share with the group :]

I shall start:

Read my novel's synopsis first if you'd like.
I am currently writing about the TV show Supernatural, in which the basic premise is that there are two brothers who go around the US killing demons, ghosts, and other supernatural beings that are seemingly abundant in that universe. My MC (Rachel) and her guardian angel (Rosiel) was just introduced to her love interest (Nate), who had just started communicating recently with his guardian angel.

The twist?

Rosiel just revealed Nate's guardian angel to be a demon posing as an angel in disguise! It had been leading Nate down a subtle, yet inevitable path to self-destruction!
DUN DUN DUN.
(insert epic angel vs demon battle here)
Speculations of the Northern Write-In members

We were talking at the write-in at the Conroe Library, and looking at the amazing word counts that are part of the Lushguin membership... namely Caeraerie, SkyMomma, and Elephande.

We've come up with several theories as to how they got those amazing totals.

Listed below are some of our favorites. More to come.

- Caeraerie is a android whose brain has been uploaded to the Austin Server.
- Elephande is actually an alien who has three sets of arms to type that much.
- SkyMomma is going through a 'groundhog day' type life, taking her flashdrive with her at all times, and just building on her wordcount the whole time.

----------
Northwest Houston NoWD

Due to scheduling, this Saturday, November 21, is going to be the first ever NWHRWA "Night of Writing Dangerously!", part of the National Write a Novel in a Month (NaNoWriMo).

Scheduled time is from 3pm to 10pm, more or less. Bring your laptop, legal pad and pen, Alpha Smart, whatever you use to free the creative monster inside, and let the words fly from your fingers. Even if you're not part of the insanity that is NaNoWriMo, consider the possibility of one evening, undisturbed, where you can hang out with like minded people who understand the trials and travails of writing a novel!

Drew Rogers, the owner, is behind this 100%. Free Wi-Fi, plenty of electrical outlets, good music, fantastic foods, and even better coffees and teas.

Drew's Pastry Place
10300 Louetta RD
Houston, TX

Come on out, and let the magic happen!

Anyone in this area? I've seen groups inside 610 and far west, but nothing in between.

Sorry if this post is not in the proper place. I'm new to NaNoWriMo, but not to writing, so I may be out of turn. I'm trying to find writers to meet up with somewhere inside HWY 6 and outside Loop 610.

Agent has my YA on submission with editors and I really need a kick in the pants to get my mind back in the game. Real life interaction might do the trick.

There's a Panera in Memorial City that can accommodate a group of writers. It also has free WiFi.

CreateSpace - Whose publishing?

I was looking through the createspace website (the one that you can get a free copy of your book from.) today, and apart from having a lot of stuff to fill out, i think i might try and use it to publish my novel, as crappy as it will be :P. maybe somewhere, someone will see my book and be like "oh this looks interesting, i want to read it." and buy it and read my deliciously unfantastic novel :P

Who else will be trying to publish their book through createspace? does it actually cost anything to put your book on amazon or whatever? etc.

Just wanted to remind the people Southwest where the writer's meetings have been held:

Teahouse on Sweetwater at Lexington in Sugar Land (in the Kroger shopping center)
Has: Bubble Tea (some coffees)
Wifi: free!
Cool People: Of course!

We had a great group down that way last year. Although I've moved inside the Loop, I still meet with these guys fairly regularly and it's always a blast. Hope to see you out there!
Stand in Awe and Fear of the Almighty SHOVEL!`

Hey all . .. I just had my first. . . . shovel scene and . . . . .Now I'm sad. T.T I hadn't realized how much I needed the shovel in my ficcy . . .But now . . .OMG!!! How good it was . . .it was so . . . .. .. omg . . . . .wow . . .

Now I am sad T.T This is not JUST my first shovel scene . . .. This is my first ever DEATH scene! TT_TT And I kinda liked the poor guy who had to bite it.

His name was Stephen, he was usually nervous, but did his job . . .. IT was this particular mission that he was convvicted by the spirit that his time was up in the story and he literally stopped everything he was doing in the middle of a mine field and began praying the Lord's prayer. Ignore the fact that he nearly got the others killed . . .

Well, the missino was a success and they were heading back to the convoy and . . . The first act of the main antagonist enacted and . . . .He's no longer . . . . (Ignore the fact that was his only scene he appeared and left in)

I'd be selfish to just ask for a little help and . . . .shovel user help for the faint of heart . .. . ..

So why not use this thread to write your shovel usage? ^_^ How many now for you? what about the character on the wrong side of the spade? D:

. . . *is crying on the inside* XD

Hello, Lushguins! lazym here. I am posting this thread for the fabluous flickguy because MLs have access to a special feature that allows us to post the same thread in two regions at once. This post, and your replies, will appear in both the Austin and Houston lounges. Now, how’s that for space-age technology?

Participants Only

If you have signed up for the optional 2009 Lushguins vs. Crabs Challenge, this is the official Word Count Thread. You must post ONE TIME on this thread, so we can easily track your numbers and see your progress in real time.

ONLY if your name is on the official Challenge list here, please post to this thread JUST ONCE.

When everyone has posted to this thread, we will lock it for tracking purposes.

So please post only ONCE.

If you are not an official Challenge Participant, please do not post here.

Did we mention only posting here once, and only if you are an official 2009 Challenge participant?

Is Your Book Starting to Scare or Freak You Out?

This is what's freaking me out:

Also, I didn't know my MFC had an ex boyfriend that she hated very much. I didn't want an ex boyfriend in my story, but he appeared and decided he liked it there : /

What is it about your book that is making you scared/freak out?
It's all HER fault!! Brand new writer looking for excuses...

Ok guys, just wondering how many BRAND SPANKING NEW writers there are doing this challenge or am I just crazy trying to do this?

Up until now I've only written down story points for a manga/comic I was hoping to draw. Yup, I'm an artist, not a writer. Or actually I should rephrase, I like to draw. I consider you guys to be great artists. Especially my best friend and writing buddy. If it wasn't for her I wouldn't even be here. Thus it's all her fault! Writing is tough, not quite like drawing a portrait, there are so many nuances that it's difficult to keep track of them.

I am at 10500 words and I have no real idea where I am going. I know the basis of the story and that's about it so I just keep plugging away but dang I feel so intimidated looking at the progress report and seeing where I am supposed to be. I know others are struggling as well but like I said I'm just wondering how many people are completely new to this genre of art form.

----------

Antidote

We sort of talked about Antidote (in the Heights) as a potential write-in place, but nothing ever got set up. I've been there a lot this month, and it's been a really good place for writing. If anyone is interested in an impromptu write-in (and tasty coffee), let me know. I'm usually there in the evenings (after 7-7:30) on the weekdays and slightly more random times on the weekends.
