New Washington Regions

This year, three new regions have been carved out of Elsewhere-land. Check below to see if one of them is in your local area. For all of you who now have a new NaNo region, don't forget to set your home region (even if you belong to only one region - you must set it as your home region or your word count doesn't get attributed to any region).

And if you're new and not sure where you belong, check out the entire list of Washington regions:

Calendar Your Events

I know it can be difficult to schedule local events when the Washington::Elsewhere region is spread across the entire state. I've created an Elsewhere Calendar, and I'll be glad to share it with anyone who is orgnaizing events in your local areas. Send me the details by NaNoMail of the first event, along with your email address. I'll post the first event and add you to the permission list so you can update the calendar with the rest of your scheduled events.

If more than one person from your area is hosting events, I would ask you designate only one person to have access to update the calendar.

The informaiton I will need is:

Organizer's regular email address
Event Date and start & stop times
- let me know whether it is a one-time meeting or a recurring event; i.e., every Thursday at 6 pm
Event Location with full street address
Brief description to let those attending know what to expect
- is this write-in, a social gathering, or something else?
- Here is also where you can tell newcomers how to find you -- will you be the one wearing the red carnation in your lapel or perhaps have a blue boa slung across your shoulders? Maybe just a laptop festooned with NaNoWriMo stickers from years past.
- Are there any rules the participants need to know about? Does the establishment require a minimum purchase for internet access, or are you expected to stay within a designated area, etc.

As the calendar gets crowded, you may want to get in the habit of clicking on the Google Calendar button at the bottom of the calendar block in order to see the events in a more readable format.

I KNOW I'm not the only Walla Wallan skulking round these here parts. I'm a Freshman at Whitman, but I'm still just crazy enough to think that maybe I can do this again. Last year was a blast. I don't know if I'll be able to attend any meetups, but I thought it would be cool to see who else is out there (any fellow Whitties?).

Essentially if you live near an island or on an island then you're in the right spot. I think right now there's 5 of us... maybe.

Quickly before I forget:
Kick off party details- are we thinking the weekend of the 22nd to the 26th works? Maybe Saturday October 24th? I think that's the time frame we were talking about with Come's anime thing and closeness to November 1st. Halloween is on a Saturday this year, meaning kick off is Sunday. And I think Anacortes was looking like where we were thinking because people are coming from Burlington and Oak Harbor...

That sounds all official despite just waking up!

Remotely Dangerous Whidbey Island

On the 22nd many brave NaNoWriMo-ers will be down in San Francisco pounding out the words for 6 hours. A few of us Whidbey Islanders don't want to miss the action so we are planning a night of Remotely Dangerous writing to be held on Whidbey. The exact time and place is still up in the air, but I'll let you know when we have it set.

Hey,

I'm looking for a some locals in my area to participate in write-ins! I'm new to the area so don't actually know what would be considered "close" (I just moved in June from Maryland). So if there is someone or somewhere else I should be directed to let me know.

This will be my 5th year participating, with last year being my first successful attempt and I'm keen to find some like minded individuals who will understand why I stop talking about anything except Nano during the month of November.

I'm generally the one to start this thread every year, and so here I am again! Anyone in Kelso/Longview area doing NaNo this year? Any ideas for good places to meet for write-ins? The Starbucks from the year before last was alright. Plenty of outlets but no internet access. Which wasn't a bad thing, necessarily. It cut back on distractions, haha.

I had moved to Portland last year, but I'm back in town now. So I'll be NaNoing with you fine folks. =)

Are there any Federal Way writers out there? This will be my 3rd year doing NaNo, Still thinking about my subjects. I am pretty new to the area but I know where borders and barnes and noble is! That was the first thing I found when I got here!! Anyway, if there are any groups, that would be great. Let me know!
