an excerpt
In one of the unique homes that unevenly spaced itself on the lush hill overlooking the city centre and vast valley, was a family that had weathered its own tempest. The house of Vere was bustling with activity as it was the case for the past two nights. Anton Vere, the head of the household had just become a father -- for the tenth time. His wife, Saija found out nine moons ago that she was with child at the mature age of one hundred and fifty. Although Capraens lived to be over two hundred years old -- in fact, the oldest Capraen ever recorded to live was two-hundred and forty five; he would have lived longer had he not been struck by a runaway cart! -- having a child past their peak which was determined by the government to be between sixty and eighty years old, was extremely rare. It came as a shock to Anton then, when he found out last night after Saija gave birth to a son (his fifth) that he had another one arriving. This morning, eight hours after his fifth son was born, he was greeted with his fifth daughter. He was half-tempted to simply assign a number, in lieu of names, to his newborns but knew that Saija (and his other children who brought their children with them, as well) would not allow it. So, in the spirit of a somewhat democratic household, all eight siblings, the confounded father and a relieved mother decided to name the son, Eoin and the daughter, Caela. As they drew open the curtains to let the sunshine into the living room-turned-nursery, the serene look on the faces of Eoin and Caela relaxed the entire family and lulled all of them to sleep. Even the grand children of Anton and Saija had dozed off under the bright morning sun whilst a great number revellers filled the city centre below. All was finally well in the Vere household.
