Synopsis: Early Evening

Elton Chevalier is just a normal teenage vampire. That is, until Eden Carver appears at school. Arriving in a cloud of Japanese Cherry Blossom and mystery, Eden drives Elton to become blood-thirsty for the first time in more than a hundred years. Can Elton get his fangs under control before he rips Eden apart?

Excerpt: Early Evening

The Camaro glided down the street. Pete stared intently out of the window, looking for trouble-makers to apprehend. Elton sighed inwardly at how completely un-cool this whole situation was. As they neared yet another red light, Pete let out a squeak of excitement.
“Dude dude dude duuuuuuude!!!!! Three o’ clock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” He shouted, practically jumping up and down.
“Pete. Really? How old are you?” Elton asked, not even looking to see the supposed crime.
“Seriously, man!! It’s that Eden chick!” Pete replied, punching Elton on the shoulder. The light turned green, but the car didn’t move forward as Elton gaped out of Pete’s window.
“What’s going on?” Elton asked, ignoring the annoyed beeps from behind him.
“I dunno… she kinda looks scared, though. Can’t you read her mind?” Pete asked.
“I am not Mr. Sparkles, thank you.” Elton replied, resisting the urge to hit Pete upside the head. They watched Eden for a few more minutes before she was joined by a group of creepy-looking men.
“I think it’s time to go Sparkles, man. She is a damsel in distress.” Pete said, turning to Elton, who sighed.
“I’ll be back.” He said, exiting the car in top vampire speed. He stopped next to one of the men who was saying dirty things to Eden.
“You know, I don’t think this is appropriate talk around a minor.” Elton said, putting a hand on the man’s shoulder. The man turned and scoffed.
“Yeah? And what’s a kid like you gonna do about it?” He asked, brushing Elton’s hand away. Elton allowed his fangs to deploy and then smiled. They glinted in the yellow street light. The man’s eyes widened and he backed away slightly.
“Oh. I think there’s something I could do.” Elton said, the smile becoming wider. The man looked at his friends, who had similar expressions plastered on their faces.
“I-I think we’ll be going now.” He squeaked before he took off at full speed in the opposite direction. When the men were out of sight, Elton retracted his fangs and looked to Eden.
“Sorry about those.” He said, indicating his mouth. “It’s the best I could come up with in this short time.”
“That’s… fine.” She said smiling tentatively.
“Do you need a ride anywhere?” Elton asked, jerking a thumb at the Camaro.
“Uh… yeah. Can you give me a lift home?” Eden asked adjusting the backpack she was wearing.
“No problem.” Elton said with a smile.
