Excerpt:
Tashi sat very still at the edge of the cliff. She was thousands of feet in the air, nervous and vibrating with energy, as her muscles cramped from waiting. She had skillfully wrapped her cloak around herself so as to give the illusion of being egg-shaped. Bob had actually given her this idea in their conversations.
Her mind was whirling with the implications of the document she had just decoded. She really wished she had the time to wait for Bob to return, but with him out on a foraging foray there was no telling how long he would be gone. Her only chance at a ride would be to pull off this slight deception and she hoped she had enough information from Bob to make it work.
Tashi pulled her wandering thoughts back from the brink of panic to focus on the task at hand. She made a concentrated effort to focus on her need and her desired destination – as soon as that held a clear thread in her mind, she began to weave a simple melody around those thoughts binding them to the notes. This took a few minutes. When Tashi was satisfied with the melody and that the melody was well connected with what she needed and where she wanted to go, then the more difficult part of including the proper harmonics began. Tashi began humming her melody softly at first and then increasing in intensity until it resonated within the confines of her cloak. She allowed the melody a cycle or two, before beginning the harmony. She added her harmony as a perfect fifth, weaving it slowly with the melody and her urgency in her mind before slowly expanding her tune to incorporate both melody and the harmony. Tashi began to shiver, and she worked hard to try to apply all the training she had received at “the sanctuary” to relax and pull energy from around her. As her melody and harmony flowed through multiple cycles she worked on centering her mind and relaxing before adding the final element. She worked on preparing to add that last most important element the overtones. Carefully forming a resonating camber in her mouth – Tashi hoped the overtones would work. She hadn’t had much success when she had been training at “the sanctuary” with actually producing overtones, so she sent an extra plea for help in her mind as the next cycle of her tune started. With all of the sounds that were resonating within her cloak, Tashi was not certain she was producing overtones and whether they were coming out. Tashi tried hard not to hold her breath as she suddenly heard faint flapping which steadily grew louder and louder. Then suddenly she was scooped off the ledge.
