Brief Author Bio: I created a Viddler account so I could document my NaNoWriMo journey! Please check out my page - the link is above (my website) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've played around with NaNoWriMo before, but never seriously participated. I'm thinking that this is the year to do it. I'm busy, but not so busy that I can't spend some time each day writing. I don't want to keep putting it off! I've loved books and stories/storytellers for as long as I can remember. When I was very young, I once told my mother that when I died I wanted to go to "book heaven" so I could read all the dead (out-of-print) books. Things haven't changed much since then. Although I'm heavily involved in performing arts, including dance, music, and theater, the literary form of storytelling has sadly fallen by the wayside in my life. I still read avidly, but I rarely write anymore. I'm hoping to change that. Other random things about me: |

SEEKING PART-TIME HELP
Local historical society looking
for eager individuals to assist with
archival duties, secretarial work, and
general maintenance. 20 hours a week,
flexible schedule.
Amy scanned all the papers again a second time, just in case there was anything she had missed; there wasn’t. There wasn’t an e-mail address listed with the ad, only a phone number. Amy preferred to communicate over the internet whenever possible, but it looked like she would have to call. She hated making phone calls. She grabbed the portable phone from its holder on the wall and dialed the number. It rang four times before an answering machine picked up. A tired, slow, and slightly gravelly woman’s voice sounded on the other end.
“You’ve reached the Braymer Historical Society. We are unavailable to answer the phone at this time. Please leave a message with your name and number, and we will return your call as soon as possible.” The machine beeped.
“Um, Hello, my name is Amy Mullins, and I’m calling because I saw your ad in the Journal about needing part-time help, and I was just wonder—“ she was cut off by someone picking up the phone on the other end. It was the same voice that had recorded the answering machine message.
“Hello?”
“Uh, yes, hello? I—“
“Sorry about that. I thought it was my husband calling.”
“Oh. Well, I had a few questions about the job, if it’s still available?”
“Yes. You’re the first person to call. When would you like to schedule an interview?”
“Actually, I was wondering how much it paid?”
“We can discuss pay during your interview. I have Tuesday and Wednesday of this week open, at any time from eleven o’clock a.m. to five o’clock p.m.”
This woman certainly wasn’t one to waste time.
“Um, let me get my calendar and I can check—“
“Actually now that I think about it, Wednesday would be better for me, if you don’t mind. I normally take a lunch break at twelve o’clock noon, and I’m back in the office by one. Just ring the bell when you come so I know you’re here.”
“Oh, alright then, I—“
“Thank-you,” the woman said, and hung up the phone.
“Welcome home,” Amy muttered to herself.
