Excerpt: Christmas Baby
The snow began to fall in the kind of heavy, clumpy balls that lets you know it really means business. No longer merely content to flutter down in solitary flakes and crystals, the snow had become thick and wet and too fast to count.
Diane turned off the blackberry on her lap, leaning her brown, cropped curls against the cool glass of the tinted window. “How much farther until we get to East Jesus Nowhere, again?”
Michael sighed. “Another three hours – four if it snows the whole way. And it’s not East Jesus Nowhere, you know. They have stores and computers and everything.”
“Right,” Diane said, closing her hazel eyes. “The Civil War just hasn’t ended there, that’s all.”
