Excerpt: Sight Unseen

The deck shuddered beneath his feet, within seconds the yacht’s wide view screen opaqued, keeping his eyesight from being momentarily blinded by the hot flare of re-entry.
“We made it Johannes.” He whispered over his left hershoulder for luck, “although I can’t reassure you exactly where we might be. Atmosphere’s breathable and ship’s picking up some settlements near the coast.”
Coast, that was the operative word. As things stood, he’d have only the barest strip of land before the vast ocean opened up and swallowed them whole.
The ship shuddered again, strained metal moaning from the effects of the quick drop into the atmosphere. But that had been all according to plan. To drop quickly and out of sight from what ever cursed craft had sought to follow him through the wormhole.
