Brief Author Bio: Not much really to say that isn't in the above although I know it's kind of vague. One thing I know that isn't in there is that I am not actually the author of any of these novels that I constantly churn out. All the credit for that goes to my lovely raccoon Little Dude who has a serious medical condition that does not allow him to type, so I do it for him. Also, I am on my hands and knees on getting a job at OLL. If only I lived in the Bay area instead of Tacoma, I would so intern. Alas, only a short time before I graduate, then I can annoy them until they give me a job. That's how it works in the real world isn't it? |

Synopsis: 海獺の英雄単[Rakko No Eiyūtan] (Odyssey of the Sea Otter)
I'm basing my story this year somewhat on the Ainu yukar クトゥネシリカ (Kutune Shirka) as well as other epics such as the Odyssey or Beowulf. Still working on an exact plot, characters, and other such details. I'm going to attempt to write as much as possible in Japanese this year, but given my proneness to indolence and sloth, my story will devolve into half-Japanese/half-English. So this year should be interesting. I haven't quite figured out what genre this story will be just yet, so I'm just going to lump it in with literary fiction.
A translation of the yukar along with notes by Arthur Waley can be found here: http://www.sacred-texts.com/shi/ainu/kutune.htm.
Excerpt: 海獺の英雄単[Rakko No Eiyūtan] (Odyssey of the Sea Otter)
Terrible English excerpt:
I walked over to the closet/cupboard and grabbed a controller, making sure to check that the console blades were active. For any avid gamer, such blades are a must although very few can actually afford them. They’re typically bought almost exclusively by game centers in order to adequately handle intense use. Of course, they’re willing to make a blade for the enabled consumer, but as I said, it’s quite expensive.
I sat on the cushions across from the flat panel. The glow of the screen filled the cabin with a sublime blue nuance that to an observer in the adjacent galley might appear creepy.
Activation tones echoed off of the various oddly angled surfaces causing an even more ungodly sound than before.
I maneuvered the screen over to select the "forums" icon. While not as difficult a task as say no-scoping a guy in the head while he's moving in a vehicle in evasive maneuvers at at least 500 yards, you could definitely see my gaming precision. I was such a fucking otaku sometimes it's pathetic. I really must get out of here more often.
"You have one new forum post," said the computerized voice. It was that same kind of halting computer voice that people have on their answering machines: "you, have, ONE, new message. Message one..." Terribly atrocious voice but if that is honestly all I had to complain about in my life at the moment, I should consider that to be a good thing shouldn't I?
REWARD: Golden Sea Otter
I am offering a hefty reward for the capture and return of the sea otter pictured below. The otter has a rare condition that produces a golden color pelt. It was last seen in heading south from the Kuril Islands. In order to collect reward or for more information, please contact
