Parker Lay has copied a key to the church vault, because three people promised him a lot of mummy to stay in the vault for a full night, he is now going to meet them again to get the key back...
When Parker walked towards the church, it was a quarter to five, just a bit ahead of the time he was going to meet the three visitors.
He had a flashlight with him, since it was still very dark, and while he knew his way around the church, he didn't want to break his legs when he walked down the steep steps to look for the visitors. Although he would have preferred if they had already waited for him near the church, he had the feeling that whatever they had planned to do during the night might take longer than expected, and so he might have to go into the vault and look for them and remind them to leave the place before sunrise to make sure that no-one suspected anything.
The closer he got to the door of the vault, the more it seemed to him that he was right. The door was closed but not locked, which was odd, since he had asked them to lock it from the inside to make sure that no-one could get in after them.
When he opened it slowly, listening carefully to any noises in the area, he couldn't really hear anything, not even any birds which might have started to wake up and greet the morning.
Since he couldn't really call out to the visitors, he braced himself and flashed the light across the steps. Nothing. He took a deep breath and stepped down, step by step, keeping the flashlight on only after half his body had disappeared inside the vault. He crouched down a bit before making it down the last two steps and kept his flashlight on.
The place seemed a lot more creepy now, and he could feel his heartbeat rise constantly.
With another deep breath, he stepped onto the ground and stood still, listening for any sound again.
Still nothing, and while the urge to run back upstairs was growing fast, he swallowed hard a couple of times and began to move the light across the floor in front of him, only sometimes grazing the walls with it.
The floor looked like it always looked, but the openings had different shadows with the light coming from a different direction now, and it took him much more courage than he thought that he would ever have to gather to walk past the first opening on either side.
There were two more before he got to the room where the three mummies were kept.
It dawned on him late that the light which he had left on was turned off.
His heartbeat was so fast now that he thought that any raise would certainly give him a heart attack. And while his hands began to shake, making the light on the floor shake from side to side just a little, as well, he nearly dropped the flashlight, when the beam came across something that seemed so very frightening in the light he shone on it.
One of the three skulls which were set in a row to build a border to what was kept inside the room behind them had been moved forward a few inches, and so he had very unexpectedly had a good view of the shadowy eye sockets that seemed to follow him.
Parker thought that the image would burn itself into his memory, and he couldn't even blink now to destroy the image, since he needed to keep his eyes open for as long as it took him to get to the last room, check it out as fast as he could and walk back and hurry upstairs, if the visitors weren't inside the vault....
the rest will be here soon!
