Synopsis: The Torah Machine and Other Tales
Option A: The Torah Machine, a collection of short children's stories about Jewish holidays and customs, for grades 3-5 and all ages.
Option B: The Gathering, a modern-day mythology spanning multiple worlds when gods clash and the elements come alive.
The decision: It's a hard one this year. On the on hand, the Torah Machine has clear potential for quick publication, and I've already got a few stories written to be a part of the collection, so during NaNoWriMo I'd only have to write the rest of them, and then it's pretty much ready for peer-review (my students are great for this) and publisher queries. On the other hand, I've had the idea for the Gathering for many, many years and I think I might actually be at a oint in the development of the story that I can truly write it now, and finally reach the end of it this time. This is such a hard decision!
The Outcome: I've decided upon the Torah Machine for this year. It'll be a nice change of pace to actually try writing just 50,000 words, and I think the lower goal will also aid my studies, especially in math. Furthermore, it'll provide a nice exploration deeper into Judaism that will nicely prepare me for a second major in religious studies after I transfer to UNCG in the Spring of 2012, only a few months before our lovely world is fated to die. And besides, I think I'll be able to better conceive the Gathering's nuances after I take a couple more science classes. (:
