Synopsis: The Freak With No One
Twelve-year-old Sam, Samantha Black, lives alone at her house on Sycamore Street. Her dad was killed a year and a half ago after jumping on an IED to save his solder brothers in Iraq, and her mom ran off a month ago.
Sam doesn't want anyone to know that she's alone because she doesn't want to leave her house. She likes it, and knows that being taken away would be worse.
Her English teacher Ms. DiAngelo takes an interest in Sam and hires Sam to walk Ms. D's dog, Jacob.
Of course the dog is going to lead Sam back from an angry, isolated life to one where she's able to connect and make friends.
